The owner of Melbourne icon Cherry Bar has written an open love letter to Oasis, praising the band for being the \u201ceconomic juggernaut that this city and my bar desperately needed\u201d.<\/p>\n
In a post on Facebook, the owner of Cherry Bar James Young, thanked the English rockstars for bringing Melbourne back to life over the weekend following a tough winter in a \u201cdead and dangerous” city.<\/p>\n
Oasis rocked Melbourne after two exhilarating sold out shows on Friday and Saturday at Marvel Stadium.<\/p>\n
The band are playing in Canberra on Tuesday night before continuing their tour in Sydney.<\/p>\n
\u201cDear Liam and Noel, I love you,\u201d Mr Young said, referencing the two brothers at the heart of the famous band.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI am the owner and booker of Cherry Bar. We are a small late night live music dive bar that has somehow survived for over 25 years in Melbourne.<\/p>\n
\u201cI like your band Oasis and have so much respect for you lads as a unique and dependable force of bona fide rock n roll attitude.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, I write to you today specifically to share my deep gratitude because you and your fans are the happy heavy drinking economic juggernaut that this city and my bar desperately needed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Young said Oasis\u2019 return to Melbourne couldn\u2019t have come at a better time where the city is being slapped with massive taxes to address the debt the government created.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe darkest hour is before the dawn, Melbourne and Cherry Bar needed a hero and who knew that it would come in the shape of a couple of “no f***s given” Mancunian larrikins?!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis Winter was tough. The city is dead and dangerous. Young people don’t come out at night anymore and if they do they don’t spend any money and ping-pong between half a dozen different venues rather than sinking p*** at one joint. Then…Oasis arrives.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Young added his bar had the biggest weekend and week on record, with the establishment opening every night from 2pm to 6am.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn your first show date, last Friday, we took a week’s takings in one day. The vibe has been joyous and inspiring, but most importantly of all… your devoted fans have been sinking p*** like absolute legends day and night,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt’s been one gigantic p***head group hug and it’s saving the bars and pubs of Melbourne.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you Noel and Liam. Thank you Oasis. No Government could ever plan an economic injection of this size and import.\u201d<\/p>\n
The arrival of Oasis comes amid a time where Melbourne continues to deal with a wave of crime sweeping Victoria.<\/p>\n
