Former Kangaroos and Dragons forward Trent Merrin has been charged with stealing $140,000 worth of cryptocurrency after allegedly using deceptive means to transfer the funds from a victim\u2019s account.<\/p>\n

Merrin, who retired from the NRL in 2021 after 250 first grade games, was arrested at his home in the Shellharbour region on Tuesday morning, one year after police began investigations into the alleged theft from a 29-year-old man\u2019s cryptocurrency account.<\/p>\n

Merrin, 36, has been active in the cryptocurrency landscape since his retirement, describing himself online as a \u201ccryptocurrency enthusiast\u201d and a \u201cdedicated entrepreneur and investor\u201d.<\/p>\n

He has pursued a range of business ventures since his retirement, including starting a cold plunge therapy service as part of a push into the booming health and wellness space.<\/p>\n

Investigators seized electronic devices from Merrin\u2019s Barrack Point home following his arrest which will be forensically examined to assist police inquiries.<\/p>\n

Merrin was granted conditional bail and is due to appear before Port Kembla Local Court on December 3.<\/p>\n
