Prince Harry<\/a>, long celebrated as one of Britain\u2019s most eligible bachelors, had his share of rumored romances before crossing paths with Meghan Markle<\/a> in July 2016. The two met on a blind date in London, and sparks flew instantly. Harry later shared that their connection developed \u201cincredibly quick,\u201d leading the couple to marry just two years later in a royal wedding that captivated fans worldwide.<\/p>\n

Prince Harry was struggling to get the queen\u2019s blessing<\/p>\n

Behind Prince Harry and Meghan Markle\u2019s fairytale romance, he faced a daunting challenge \u2014 securing Queen Elizabeth II\u2019s approval to marry his now wife. According to the Daily Mail<\/a>, in his memoir \u201cSpare,\u201d the Duke of Sussex recalled the daunting moment he had to ask his grandmother for permission to propose.<\/p>\n

He described how the conversation unfolded during a getaway at Sandringham, one of the royal family\u2019s private estates. \u201cGranny wasn\u2019t exactly known for changing her mind,\u201d he wrote. \u201cSo this moment was either the start of my life or the end.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harry admitted he had been putting off the discussion for days, struggling to find a moment alone with the queen. However, when he saw her walking toward her car after a \u201cclassic royal shooting luncheon,\u201d he realized it was now or never.<\/p>\n

Harry claims to have begun nervously, \u201cGranny, you know I love Meg very much, and I\u2019ve decided that I would like to ask her to marry me, and I\u2019ve been told that I have to ask your permission before I can propose.\u201d<\/p>\n

As she was caught off guard, Harry explained that their staff had told him royal protocol required her approval. \u201cYou have to?,\u201d the queen replied. \u201cWell then, I suppose I have to say yes,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The response left Harry momentarily confused. Then, realizing she had in fact granted her consent, he chided himself: \u201cYou muppet! She\u2019s granting permission. Who cares how she words it, just know when to take yes for an answer.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the queen\u2019s approval secured, Harry began planning his proposal. Wanting to honor his late mother, Princess Diana<\/a>, he designed Markle\u2019s engagement ring using diamonds from one of Diana\u2019s bracelets. He then asked for the Duchess of Sussex\u2019s hand in marriage, and the rest is history.<\/p>\n
