(Supplied)&#13;<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cA house is not just walls \u2026 it\u2019s moments and memories,\u201d she told Arab News.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tIn recent years, entire neighborhoods in Makkah and Jeddah have been cleared to make way for smart, efficient and modern developments.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tWhile these decisions are required from an urban planning perspective, the emotional toll has been heavy for some.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\tHIGHLIGHTS&#13;\n\t<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\u2022 Shahd Jad Al-Haq, a 20-year-old artist with Palestinian roots and a Makkawi upbringing, is preserving the soul of disappearing communities through intricate models. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\u2022 One of her most touching projects was a model of a family house that was demolished in Jeddah\u2019s old Hindawiyah district.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tPeople \u2014 Saudis and non-Saudis alike \u2014 have lost more than just buildings; they have lost memories, neighbors, childhood alleyways and the homes that shaped their lives.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/whatsapp_image_2025-07-14_at_11.03.19_pm_1.jpg\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\n\t&#13;<br \/>\n\t\tYoung artist Shahd Jad Al-Haq\u2019s childhood in Makkah deeply shaped her sense of place and visual style. (Supplied)&#13;<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tAmid this sense of loss, Jad Al-Haq found her calling.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cMy dream was to study architecture. It\u2019s something that shows clearly in my work,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe first model she created was of her family\u2019s old home, which she gave to her father as a surprise.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cHis reaction shocked me; his eyes filled with tears. He said I had taken him back in time. That\u2019s when I realized this was more than just art; it was a responsibility,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\tMy love for old homes and everyday details comes from the world I grew up in. It\u2019s something that shows clearly in my work.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"float-right\">&#13;<br \/>\n\t\tShahd Jad Al-Haq, Artist<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tAl-Haq\u2019s passion for this kind of art began in childhood, but she developed it professionally in recent years. (Supplied)&#13;<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tShe works with materials like wood, cardboard, acrylic and foam, using fine sculpting tools and modern techniques like 3D printing.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t just work on how things look; I work on how this model will make people feel,\u201d Al-Haq said. \u201cThe sound of a door, the sunlight through a window \u2026 I want to bring people back to their homes emotionally, not just visually.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tHer project has garnered considerable attention, both within and outside the Kingdom. She has received work requests from many countries and regions, including Kuwait, the UAE, Europe and even the US, from people who long for the homes they once lived in.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tOne of her most touching projects was a model of a family house that was demolished in Jeddah\u2019s old Hindawiyah district.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe reaction was unforgettable. There were tears and memories. It was a moment I\u2019ll always carry with me,\u201d Jad Al-Haq said.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tAbdulaziz Al-Harbi, who received a miniature of his former Makkah home, said: \u201cHonestly, I got goosebumps. I never thought a small model could move me this much.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cThe tiny outdoor stairs reminded me of Eid, of my mom\u2019s voice, of the fan shaking the ceiling. This is more than just a model; it\u2019s a living memory. I told my family: \u2018Look, this isn\u2019t just a picture, it\u2019s our actual house.\u2019 Some of them cried, especially the older ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tSamia, known as Umm Suleiman from Jeddah, lived in her home for more than 50 years before it was demolished.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tShe said: \u201cI was amazed, so happy and so thankful. This model brought back all my memories, my parents, my brothers, everything. The house was destroyed and turned into bare land, but this piece preserved the best part of my life.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cI even held a small party to unveil it like a treasure. Everyone cried, from the nostalgia, the love and the childhood we remembered. Shahd took us back 50 years. May she be as happy as she made us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tJad Al-Haq dreams of turning her project into a permanent exhibition that brings back the lost neighborhoods of Makkah and Jeddah.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cI want visitors to walk through the models and feel like they\u2019re back in those streets. I want to preserve the memory and the sentimental value that these locations once had. We have to see the stories and the culture that\u2019s still alive in our memories,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tShe hopes to integrate augmented reality to deepen the experience, and plans to launch workshops to share her techniques with others.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cA house is not just a place. It\u2019s memory and identity.
