Though audiences still have at least a year and some change before they can expect the third installment in theaters, there have been noteworthy developments.<\/p>\n

\n\tDeadline first heard back in June 2024<\/a> that a December 2026 slot was being held for the film\u2019s theatrical release. It has since been slotted for December 18, 2026.<\/p>\n

\n\tYes, the film aimed to go into production over the summer<\/a>, and Robert Pattinson mentioned shooting the film in the desert<\/a> in an interview with IndieWire ahead of his film Die My Love co-starring Jennifer Lawrence out Nov. 7.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhat will Dune 3 be about?<\/p>\n

\n\tThe movie will likely follow the events of Herbert\u2019s second book in the series Dune Messiah, which takes place 12 years after the events of Dune.<\/p>\n

\n\tYes, Nakoa-Wolf Mamoa and Ida Brooke have boarded the project<\/a>, set to portray Leto II and Ghanima, the twin children of Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet\u2019s Paul Atreides and Zendaya\u2019s Chani. The pair are born at the end of Dune Messiah.<\/p>\n

\n\tRobert Pattinson entered talks for a villain role<\/a> \u2014 that of Scytale \u2014 in April 2025.<\/p>\n

\n\tNo, Denis Villeneuve has declared<\/a> that his vision for adapting Dune includes two films that make up the first book and then a third.<\/p>\n
