Tim David has suggested that a career in Major League Baseball could be on the cards after a fascinating comparison with baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani before the fourth T20I between Australia and India<\/a> on the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n

Fox Cricket showcased the similarities between David\u2019s monster 129 metre six, the biggest ever record by Fox Cricket<\/a>, in Hobart on Sunday night and the Japanese sensation\u2019s recent World Series home run heroics for back-to-back champions the Los Angeles Dodgers.<\/p>\n

The segment highlighted David\u2019s extraordinary ability to generate power with a heavy bat and less speed on the ball.<\/p>\n

David\u2019s big bomb came off the left arm spin of Axar Patel with the ball coming in 75 km\/h, but going out at 153km\/h after David swung the bat at 84 km\/h.<\/p>\n

In comparison, Ohtani\u2019s home run came via 129 km\/h bat speed, 144 km\/h ball speed in and 188 km\/h ball speed out.<\/p>\n

Ohtani\u2019s also went further, 143 metres vs 129m, while it also went higher with an apex of 37m compared to 28m.<\/p>\n

David\u2019s would have also been a home run at Dodgers Stadium, however.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s pretty cool,\u201d David said when he was told that fact by Fox Cricket\u2019s Mark Howard.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, the only problem is we\u2019re sitting here pre-game and I\u2019ll probably miss the first one and get my stumps knocked out of the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n

The T20 freelancer was doing his best to stay humble throughout the interview, but he perhaps got a little tongue-in-cheek by suggesting he may need some time away from cricket to explore hitting home runs for a living.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, it\u2019s pretty interesting, and those guys obviously set the benchmark in terms of power,\u201d David said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re very specific in the training they do – they throw, they sprint and they do they\u2019re batting, and they\u2019re hitting.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s an amazing athlete, and as far as making comparisons between myself and that, I know how much work it takes to get to the top level of an elite sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I know good those guys are and how many good baseballers there are out there, but we\u2019ve got a bit of time between our next World Cup and after that, see if any Major League Baseball teams want to come knocking.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can certainly chat about that, but nah, those guys are so impressive and the speed of those pitches – I\u2019ve sat behind the home plate at a Major League Baseball game and picking up the cues, it\u2019s like having these mystery spinners bowl, but it comes down at 150 (km\/h) at what they call 100mph and you\u2019ve got pick up the variations.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, phenomenal athletes and it\u2019s nice you guys made a comparison.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for David\u2019s 129m epic on the ground he has carved up BBL bowlers for the Hobart Hurricanes, he suggested that he may have an even bigger six in him in the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt comes from a lot of practice,\u201d David said of his power.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been playing golf the last couple of years, and, you know, that\u2019s just keeping those mechanics going.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe use heavy bats as hitters. We don\u2019t hit the ball out of the middle of the bat all the time, so when you get a good one out of the middle of the bat like that, it goes.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut, absolutely, you\u2019ve got to swing the bat hard and make good contact.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be honest, that shot, thinking about it now, at the time I wasn\u2019t completely pulling the trigger on it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s full and in a nice spot. The good contact is the most important.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWas there a bit more in shed, was there?\u201d Howard replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, it starts getting ugly at that point,\u201d David responded with a laugh.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s probably more on the golf course and they go in the trees.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old stands at 196cm tall.<\/p>\n

Based on size alone, he would not look out of place on a basketball court or playing as a key forward in the AFL.<\/p>\n

David is one of many current short form guns who use their size and long levers to create immense power, but he insisted that was not always the case.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the young kids, firstly, my shot until I was about 16 was the late cut. I didn\u2019t have any power,\u201d David said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very blessed now that I do have that. I\u2019m getting close to 30 now, so I spend a lot of time trying to work in the gym and in practice to get that power.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like to use my back leg as a really stable base.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll try and have the majority of my weight on the back foot and that certainly creates a lot of clarity for me that if I see the ball full, I\u2019m going to commit to swinging, which is what happened that ball the other night that I obviously hit so well.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, certainly the transferral of momentum, but also the efficiency.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you try and swing too hard, you start hitting the ball up in the air. Early contact goes up and you\u2019re out caught.<\/p>\n
