{"id":266817,"date":"2025-11-06T15:47:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T15:47:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/266817\/"},"modified":"2025-11-06T15:47:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T15:47:15","slug":"don-mattingly-leaving-blue-jays-after-world-series-heartbreak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/266817\/","title":{"rendered":"Don Mattingly leaving Blue Jays after World Series heartbreak"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Don Mattingly has decided to step away from his Blue Jays bench coach job, but not with the intention of retiring from baseball, The Post has learned.<\/p>\n<p>Mattingly had been with the Blue Jays for three seasons and was enlisted to help mentor John Schneider, who had been elevated to Toronto manager \u2013 and a first-time manager \u2013 during the 2022 season.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/02\/sports\/don-mattingly-unable-to-win-elusive-world-series-ring\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mattingly\u2019s contract was up<\/a> and he felt it was mission accomplished with the Blue Jays having won the AL East and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/04\/sports\/the-mlb-lessons-from-2025-dodgers-blue-jays-world-series\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reached World Series Game 7<\/a>, a source said. MLB Photos via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>At 64, though, Mattingly still feels feels energized following the Jays\u2019 fantastic and surprising season even though it ended in a heartbreaking World Series defeat. The Yankees great would be open to the right job elsewhere, including managing.
