Nov. 6 (UPI) — A Minnesota zoo announced the birth of a cotton-top tamarin, a critically-endangered species of monkey native to the tropical forests of Colombia.<\/p>\n
The Lake Superior Zoo said on social media<\/a> that the baby, which has not yet been named, was born Sept. 30 to parents Mira and Dino.\n<\/p>\n The baby joins siblings Echo, Tango and Foxtrot, the zoo said.<\/p>\n Anna Schopf, an animal care specialist at the zoo, said keepers are keeping their distance while the baby bonds with its family.<\/p>\n “Babies being raised by like their parents and by their siblings is really important for their social development, and so we don’t step in really heavily, so that we don’t interrupt with that process,” Schopf told FOX 21 news.<\/a><\/p>\n The baby, along with the rest of the tamarin family, is on display from noon until 2 p.m. each day in the zoo’s Primate Conservation Center. The monkeys’ time on display is currently being limited to make sure the baby gets plenty of rest and nursing time.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \t\t\t
