HONOLULU\u00a0\u2014\u00a0\u00a0The University of Hawai’i men’s basketball team plays host to East Texas A&M in its home opener on Sunday, Nov. 9 at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The game will tip at 8:00 p.m. and will follow the Rainbow Wahine volleyball match versus CSU Bakersfield at 4:00 p.m.<\/p>\n
It will be the first of 11 straight home contests\u00a0through November and December for the Rainbow Warriors, who opened the season on Nov. 4 with a near-upset of perennial NCAA Tournament squad Oregon. UH lost\u00a0to the Ducks in Eugene, 60-59, succumbing\u00a0to Takai Simpkins’ game-winning shot with 4.2 seconds left.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tOur Team, Hawai’is Team Food Drive. In an effort to help and make a difference within the state of Hawai’i and on campus, the University of Hawai’i Athletics Department will partner with the Hawai’i Foodbank and the university’s Office of the Vice Provost for Student Success, for a three-day food drive centered to help residents and students in need\u00a0who have recently been affected due to the government shutdown. Fans attending any UH event this weekend can drop off nonperishable food items outside Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center at Gate A.
\n\tHawaii Literacy, a non-profit organization aimed\u00a0to empower Hawaii’s children and adults with essential reading, writing, and lifelong learning skills, will have a Bookmobile parked in front of the UH parking structure to help provide families with access to books and educational materials.
\n\tThe\u00a0“Super Fan”\u00a0promotion is available with both the women’s volleyball and men’s basketball games on Sunday.\u00a0Ticket holders of one event may\u00a0receive\u00a050% off\u00a0upper level adult tickets for the other event occurring on the same day.\u00a0

\n\tTThe Rainbow Warriors play its first home game of the year when it host East Texas A&M.
\n\tIt will be the first of 11 straight home games for the ‘Bows through Dec. 13. UH will not play on the road again until Jan. 1.
\n\tUH opened the season with a 60-59 loss at Oregon on Nov. 4. The ‘Bows erased a double-digit lead and led in the final minute before falling on a shot by Takai Simpkins with 4.2 seconds left.
\n\tUH\u00a0 had 12 steals and forced 21 Oregon turnovers, but shot just 32 percent on the night, including 5-of-27 on threes\u00a0and 12-of-19 from the\u00a0free throw line.
\n\tSeven players made their regular-season debut as Rainbow Warriors at Oregon, led by Isaac Johnson’s<\/a> 13 points, eight\u00a0rebounds and three\u00a0steals.
\n\tEast Texas A&M comes to Honolulu with a 1-1 record, sporting a 119-60 home win over Arlington Baptist, while falling at New Mexico, 76-54, in its last game on Nov. 5.
\n\tThis will be the second all-time meeting between the teams. East Texas A&M, previously known as Texas A&M-Commerce, upset UH,\u00a053-51, on Nov. 30, 2022.
