Today<\/a>\u00a0presenter Clint Stanaway<\/a> has opened up about his shock decision to leave Channel 9<\/a> after nearly 25 years with the network. The 42-year-old sports and news journalist is best known for being the host of Weekend Today, the weekend sports presenter on 9News Melbourne, and the newreader for the Melbourne breakfast radio show Jase & Lauren.<\/p>\n

He announced in September<\/a> that he had resigned from his TV roles to focus on his full-time gig in radio and pursue \u201ca better work-life balance\u201d. As he prepares to finish his duties with Nine at the end of the year, Clint has opened up about the reality of working such extreme hours<\/a> and how it impacted both his physical and mental health.<\/p>\n

He told the Big Bros<\/a>\u00a0podcast that he experienced \u201csignificant burnout\u201d working three jobs, and he had made the \u201creally tough\u201d decision to leave Nine because he \u201cneeded to get [his] life back\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cPhysically, first and foremost, I was just getting sick a lot, pushing the envelope,\u201d he detailed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had really bad gut issues, I was getting headaches, I wasn’t sleeping well, which is ironic, because I was so tired, but I just couldn’t sleep.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was scary. I was getting chest issues, like I had chest pain,\u201d he continued. \u201cAnd a bit of anxiety as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

‘That was all I was doing’: Today presenter’s ‘distress’<\/p>\n

Clint went on to share that he also experienced \u201csocial burnout\u201d and simply didn\u2019t have any time to see his friends and loved ones, which he described as \u201cpretty distressing\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I finished work, I was going home because I was exhausted. I’d sit on the couch, go to bed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn fact, every day was set an alarm, go to bed, wake up, go to work, and sometimes go to work radio, go to work TV in the same day, come home at seven o’clock, make my dinner, sit on the couch, go to bed. That was all I was doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clint’s career history<\/p>\n

Clint began his television career with WIN in Bendigo before joining 9News as a reporter in 2005. He later landed the role of weekend sports presenter on 9News and became the sports presenter on Weekend Today in 2019.<\/p>\n

Four years later, Clint was announced as the new co-host of Weekend Today alongside Jayne Azzopardi, who has since been replaced by Alison Piotrowski.<\/p>\n

He has also been the newsreader for the Melbourne breakfast radio show Jase & Lauren since 2021, when they were on KIIS, and stayed with the team when they moved to Nova in 2024.<\/p>\n

Who will replace Clint Stanaway on Weekend Today?<\/p>\n

Channel 9 has yet to reveal who will replace Clint Stanaway as host of Weekend Today when he wraps up at the end of the year; however, several names are expected to be in the mix.<\/p>\n

Dan Anstey has been the weather presenter on Weekend Today since 2022 and will take over as temporary host over the summer break<\/a> alongside Lara Vella, Michael Atkinson, and Lizzie Pearl.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Tim Davies and Gavin Morris have also both filled in as co-hosts of Weekend Today in recent years.<\/p>\n
