The reviews for Pluribus<\/a> have one thing in common. Well, two things, if you count a lot of hemming and hawing about what does or does not count as a spoiler. Vince Gilligan\u2019s return to Albuquerque and reunion with Rhea Seehorn<\/a> has a lofty sci-fi premise and a deliberate pace that works for some people, less so for others. But across the board, Seehorn is being praised for her singular talent and ability to juggle pain and jokes. As Linda Holmes of NPR<\/a> puts it, Seehorn\u2019s character, Carol, \u201cmay be experiencing existential despair, but boy, does Seehorn manage some deeply entertaining side-eye.\u201d<\/p>\n The viewing public is in agreement. The show\u2019s premiere seemingly crashed Apple TV<\/a>, with around 13,000 reports on\u00a0Downdetector<\/a> after the first two episodes dropped on the streamer. It\u2019s almost like there\u2019s some sort of hive mind controlling all the Apple TV viewers, forcing them to watch the show en masse as soon as it\u2019s out. Below, the collective praise for Pluribus. <\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s a good chance\u00a0Pluribus\u00a0will alienate you with its deliberate pace and high-wire premise. There\u2019s an equally good chance\u00a0Pluribus\u00a0will completely take over your life for the few weeks it runs on Apple TV \u2026 You owe it to yourself to give\u00a0Pluribus\u00a0a chance. Something glorious is gestating inside this entrancing piece of television, and to experience its full effect, you have to trust the process.\u201d \u2014 Nicholas Quah, Vulture<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cHeading into Pluribus, you already know why Gilligan would want to build an entire show around an actor of Seehorn\u2019s caliber. But it\u2019s only by watching Pluribus that you understand why this concept would basically\u00a0only\u00a0work with Seehorn at its forefront. She is the\u00a0sine qua non\u00a0of the entire enterprise \u2014\u00a0its center, its selling point, its load-bearing foundation. The show may be Gilligan\u2019s blank-check moment, spending the proceeds of several hundred thousand iPhone sales on a big, epic swing. But it\u2019s also Seehorn\u2019s party, and she makes for an excellent host.\u201d \u2014 Alison Herman, Variety<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cIt takes some chutzpah to look at the world\u00a0in\u00a02025 \u2014 especially if you are a non-Maga citizen of the US \u2014 and say to yourself, \u2018Yes, but wouldn\u2019t it be almost more terrible if everybody just \u2026 got along?\u2019 But that is essentially what Gilligan has done. The execution may not be flawless \u2014 Pluribus is a slow burn\u00a0that is frequently just slow, and has the wonderful\u00a0Seehorn spinning her wheels too often \u2014 but\u00a0the audacity of the question is incredible.\u201d \u2014 Lucy Mangan, The Guardian<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cPluribus, too, is\u00a0a brutal watch as Carol finds herself deep in grief, walking through empty buildings, driving deserted neighborhoods, experiencing the arid desolation of a frictionless life. But the collaboration between Gilligan and Seehorn also is built on how funny she is, how perfectly suited to both his willingness to plumb deep wells of sadness and the playfulness that made him an ideal collaborator with Bob Odenkirk, even back when Saul was mostly\u00a0Breaking Bad\u00a0comic relief.
