LIV Golf’s top brass reportedly believes that a major breakthrough could be on the horizon after making a series of watershed changes.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, the Saudi-backed circuit announced that it will be transitioning all its events to a 72-hole format<\/a> despite initially setting itself apart with three-day, 54-hole competitions \u2014 a decision that was warmly welcomed by stars such as Dustin Johnson<\/a> and Bryson DeChambeau<\/a>.<\/p>\n Starting next season, individual competition will feature 72 holes of stroke play with team competition \u2014 which is still slated to run concurrently \u2014 being determined by each golf club\u2019s cumulative individual stroke play.<\/p>\n READ MORE: TNF broadcast forced to react after Broncos player’s crude act<\/a>READ MORE: Aaron Rodgers caught off guard by movie night at Steelers teammate’s house<\/a><\/p>\n As part of another notable revision, LIV Golf is slated to introduce new pathways for players. Next year, the two top points scorers from the Asian Tour\u2019s International Series and the \u201cPromotions\u201d qualifying event will earn automatic bids onto the league.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a huge goal for our players at the start of each year,\u201d Asian Tour commissioner Cho Minn Thant told bunkered.co.uk<\/a>. \u201cFor two pure Asian Tour players to get back up there would be phenomenal for us.\u201d<\/p>\n The pair of adjustments is viewed by many around the golf world as part of LIV Golf\u2019s ongoing push to be included in the Official World Golf Ranking System.<\/p>\n OWGR points serve a pivotal role in helping players obtain entry into major championships, though many players on LIV Golf have plummeted down the leaderboard since defecting from the PGA Tour.<\/p>\n According to Thant, LIV chief executive Scott O\u2019Neil and OWGR chairman Trevor Immelman have engaged in \u201cregular talks,\u201d with a resolution likely not far off from coming to fruition.<\/p>\n \u201cI think Scott and Trevor Immelman have been having regular talks and they\u2019ve worked to a point where they\u2019re very close,\u201d Thant said. \u201cThere has to be some small changes going forward, but I think Scott\u2019s really open to it.<\/p>\n \u201cI think they\u2019ll probably resolve something very soon. They\u2019re a lot more approachable for us.
