A\u00a0Ka-226 helicopter carrying employees of\u00a0a\u00a0Russian defense enterprise crashed on\u00a0November 7\u00a0in\u00a0Dagestan, Russia, killing at\u00a0least five people and injuring two others, according to\u00a0Russian state media and the Ministry of\u00a0Emergency Situations (MChS).<\/p>\n

The aircraft, registered<\/a> as\u00a0RA-19307 and operated by\u00a0the Kizlyar Electromechanical Plant, was flying from Kizlyar to\u00a0Izberbash when it\u00a0went down near the settlement of\u00a0Achi-Su in\u00a0the Karabudakhkent district. <\/p>\n

Russian emergency officials said the helicopter caught fire in\u00a0flight before crashing onto a\u00a0residential building near the Achi-Su riverbank. The house was unoccupied at\u00a0the time of\u00a0impact.<\/p>\n

The Russia\u2019s Ministry of\u00a0Emergency Situations reported that an\u00a080-square-meter fire broke out at\u00a0the crash site and was later extinguished. Three people were initially hospitalized, one of\u00a0whom later died from severe burns, bringing the death toll to\u00a0five. Local authorities stated that the crash was likely caused by\u00a0a\u00a0technical malfunction.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0TASS and the Telegram channel 112, all passengers were employees of\u00a0the Kizlyar defense plant, which produces aviation and dual-use components for Russia\u2019s defense industry. The Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) has classified the incident as\u00a0an\u00a0aviation disaster and launched an\u00a0investigation.<\/p>\n

The Kizlyar Electromechanical Plant is\u00a0known for manufacturing external suspension systems for launching air-to-surface missiles such as\u00a0the Kh-58, Kh-59, and Kh-31, as\u00a0well as\u00a0equipment for aircraft diagnostics and maintenance. <\/p>\n

In\u00a0recent years, the facility has also been involved in\u00a0developing mobile anti-aircraft systems based on\u00a0the Typhoon-VDV armored vehicle platform and the ZU-23-2 autocannon, a\u00a0project unveiled in\u00a02022\u00a0at\u00a0Russia\u2019s Army-2022 exhibition.<\/p>\n

Earlier, a\u00a0Russian Ka-52 \u201cAlligator\u201d attack helicopter was reportedly shot<\/a> down over occupied territory. Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat noted that Ka-52 helicopters remain among the most dangerous Russian aircraft but said Ukrainian mobile air defense teams are effectively targeting them.<\/p>\n
