The Jillaroos<\/a> have beaten the Kiwi Ferns to win the Pacific Championship title, after a series of errors led to the New Zealand side playing catching up for most of the game.<\/p>\n

In front of a sold-out crowd at Parramatta’s CommBank Stadium, the Kiwi Ferns were unable to punch through Australia’s defence enough and fell short of the title.<\/p>\n

Ashleigh Quinlan’s sin-bin just a minute into her time on the field added to the Ferns’ woes and an ugly hip-drop tackle also sent Ivana Lauitiiti off for 10 minutes, leaving the New Zealand side with only 12 players on the park for 20 minutes.<\/p>\n

“They’re almost unstoppable, aren’t they?” said Emma Lawrence on Nine.<\/p>\n

“The Jillaroos came in as heavy favourites … They are a team of genuine superstars and it’s very hard to find any type of weakness across that line-up.”<\/p>\n

The Australian side came out early with the first try of the match three minutes into the game from Olivia Kernick to take a 6-0 lead.<\/p>\n

Julia Robinson solidified the Jillaroos’ charge, able to sneak through the Ferns and score for the Australian side.<\/p>\n

“Does anyone do it better in modern-day rugby league? Her hands are like webs. They just stick [to the ball],” Brad Fittler said on Nine.<\/p>\n

The Ferns were reduced to 12 after Quinlan was sent to the sin bin after only a minute on the field.<\/p>\n

She was handed the order by referee Belinda Sharpe after Quinlan came into the tackle late and flopped on top of Jakiya Whitfeld, earning herself 10 minutes.<\/p>\n

After Whitfeld pulled the Ferns close to Australia’s line, she unleashed and darted towards the middle.<\/p>\n

Jess Sergis was in perfect position to follow for support, collecting a slick pass to run away down the field.<\/p>\n

At half-time, it was 24-0 to the Jillaroos.<\/p>\n

The first try in the second half went to Kiwi Shanice Parker, who put the New Zealand side on the scoreboard. <\/p>\n

Tamika Upton hit back with a classy solo try to keep the Jillaroos ahead by 26 points.<\/p>\n

“They look unstoppable,” Fittler admitted on Nine.<\/p>\n

Tysha Ikenasio scored a try for New Zealand but its errors continued as Apii Nicholls missed both conversion attempts.<\/p>\n

With 10 minutes to go in the final, Ivana Lauitiiti was sin-binned after an ugly hip-drop tackle sent Olivia Higgins sprawling on the field.<\/p>\n

In back play, Annessa Biddle was in a world of pain after being clobbered in the head by Ellie Johnston’s left knee as she went low for a tackle, and again when the rampaging prop’s knee plunged into her face as she lay on the ground.<\/p>\n

Johnston then crashed over for a try from close range before Robinson bagged her second four-pointer of the day as the Jillaroos rounded out a 40-8 win.<\/p>\n

Robinson was awarded player of the match.<\/p>\n
