MEADVILLE, Pa. \u2013 The RIT women’s basketball team held off a late surge to defeat Allegheny, 62-60, in a non-conference game, Sunday.
\n\u00a0
\nHOW IT HAPPENED<\/p>\n


\n\tRIT led 36-27 at halftime after a strong second quarter, outscoring Allegheny 19-9.
\n\tThe Tigers extended their lead to 14 points late in the third quarter with back-to-back three-pointers from sophomore forward Ben Kayser-Cochran<\/a> and graduate student guard Hannah Durand<\/a>. Graduate student guard Sydney Pearson<\/a> made the score 50-36 with 2:37 left in the third after making the front end of a pair of free throws.
\n\tAllegheny mounted a furious comeback in the fourth, scoring 24 points and cutting the deficit to just two with five seconds remaining.
\n\tSophomore guard Caroline Henderson<\/a> hit a clutch free throw with two seconds left to seal the win for RIT. <\/p>\n

\nGAME NOTES<\/p>\n


\n\tSophomore guard Maddy Ramsgard<\/a> led the Tigers with 17 points, including a key jumper with under two minutes to play.
\n\tKayser-Cochran added 14 points, two assists, and two steals.
\n\tHenderson and Durand both contributed 10 points in the win.
\n\tRIT shot 35.5 percent from the field (22-of-62) and 47.1 percent from three-point range (8-of-17).
\n\tThe Tigers also outrebounded Allegheny 42-to-40, including 13 offensive boards.
\n\tRIT improved to 1-1 on the season. <\/p>\n

\nWHAT’S NEXT
\nThe Tigers are off until next weekend, when they compete in the Emmanuel College Tip-Off Tournament in Boston. RIT will face Stevens in the opening game on Saturday (Nov. 15) at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n
