Camera IconDr George Huber was a much-loved vet in the Midland area. Credit: Facebook<\/p>\nA popular Midland veterinary hospital has shared the devastating news that one of their much-loved former vets has died of age-related complications.<\/p>\n
Swan Veterinary Hospital wrote a statement on social media on Saturday updating the WA community on George Huber\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of Dr George Huber. Swan Veterinary Hospital would not be here today if it wasn\u2019t for his profound dedication,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
\u201cGeorge\u2019s compassion for animals was truly unparalleled. He was one of a kind, with people travelling from afar and queues out the door to see him. It is safe to say that he was Western Australia\u2019s most sought-after vet.<\/p>\n
\u201cGeorge, we thank you for all the years of dedication you gave to this profession, and we will forever treasure the memories. George often used to say that everyone is replaceable\u2026..well, not you my friend, not you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite Dr Huber not practising for the past 10 years, the post has received over 2000 reactions and has been flooded with comments from previous customers and veterinary students who did work experience alongside Dr Huber.<\/p>\n
\u201cI did my work experience with George \u2014 he was so genuinely caring . . . there was a very sick dog brought into the surgery late at night, we left for the day and arrived next morning to George asleep on the floor with the dog\u201d one person recounted.<\/p>\n
\u201cGeorge saved my dog\u2019s life after she was hit by a car. He let me stay there for hours while I comforted her. He was so smart how he managed her. The only reason she lived a long life thereafter was because of his actions,\u201d another commenter shared.<\/p>\n
\u201cSuch a generous man to those who found it hard, but loved their pets and would do anything to have them well . . . Rest in peace George amongst all those animals you took care of. I am sure they will surround you up there with much happiness,\u201d a third person said.<\/p>\n
Some commenters requested that the Veterinary practice should do something to celebrate Dr Huber\u2019s legacy.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wonder if Swan Animal Vet will do something to celebrate his life? Perhaps create a memorial fund in his name? Hang a big photograph in reception so that people know about him. He certainly deserves to have some kind of legacy created in his honour,\u201d one person suggested.<\/p>\n
Manager of the practice, Phoebe Andrich, shared her memories of Dr Huber with PerthNow.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve had the privilege of working at Swan Veterinary Hospital for 25 years, and in that time, I can honestly say I\u2019ve never encountered a veterinarian quite like George\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was truly an extraordinary individual who consistently went above and beyond for all his patients, regardless of their financial situation. He did a significant amount of work for WA\u2019s rescue groups, registered breeders and greyhounds.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe had exceptional skills in both medicine and surgery. I will always treasure the \u201cold school days\u201d working for George; they were by far the best.\u201d<\/p>\n
Andrich elaborated that the huge outpouring of tributes in the wake of his death is not solely for his veterinary skills.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was well known as WA\u2019s best vet not just because of his veterinary skills, but his caring and selfless ways with any animal.
