{"id":275172,"date":"2025-11-10T10:03:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T10:03:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/275172\/"},"modified":"2025-11-10T10:03:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T10:03:10","slug":"studio-asai-blends-classicism-with-eccentricity-for-paris-appartment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/275172\/","title":{"rendered":"Studio Asa\u00ef blends &#8220;classicism with eccentricity&#8221; for Paris appartment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>French design firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/studio-asai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Studio Asa\u00ef<\/a> has revamped a residence in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/paris\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paris<\/a> informed by the vibrant nightlife of London&#8217;s &#8220;swinging sixties&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Overlooking the Bois de Boulogne, the 320-square-metre apartment was designed for a young family relocating from London and comprises two living spaces, a library, four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a kitchen and a separate dining area.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2266672 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Studio-Asai\u0308-\u2013-Bois-de-Boulogne_dezeen_2364_col_4-852x1102.jpg\" alt=\"Photograph of the dramatic entrance hall, which has tartan wallcoverings in a deep purple. There is a patterned marble floor, and a green sculptural chair, spotlighted by a red-hanging pendant light.\" width=\"1827\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Studio Asa\u00ef&#8217;s design drew inspiration from Parisian classicism and the bold club-like interiors of 1960s London<\/p>\n<p>The studio experimented with a mixture of matte and glossy finishes to add texture to the scheme, blending traditional materials such as oak, marble and lacquer with new materials such as Foresso \u2013 a wood terrazzo made from recycled trees.<\/p>\n<p>Combining a rich colour palette with a selection of eclectic furnishings, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.studioasai.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Studio Asa\u00ef<\/a>&#8216;s design took cues from some of London&#8217;s most exclusive private member&#8217;s clubs \u2013 including the renowned Annabel&#8217;s in Mayfair, which opened in the 1960s.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2266674 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Studio-Asai\u0308-\u2013-Bois-de-Boulogne_dezeen_2364_col_6-852x1102.jpg\" alt=\"Photograph of the bold kitchen, showing a small seating area with red-velvet banquette seating and stylised chairs. The kitchen has a black and white checkerboard floor.\" width=\"1827\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The studio incorporated bright colours, patterned wallpapers and playful furniture throughout the interior<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The design plays with contrasts: refined yet bold, historical yet playful. Like in a private club, each room has its own mood and story, but all are connected by colour and rhythm&#8221; explained Studio Asa\u00ef founder Antoine Simonin.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The furniture is a curated blend of vintage and contemporary pieces sourced from galleries such as Galerie Meubles et Lumi\u00e8res, Remix Gallery, Lemon Furniture and Morentz. We also collaborated with Lemon Papier for bespoke wallpapers,&#8221; he continued.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2266671 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Studio-Asai\u0308-\u2013-Bois-de-Boulogne_dezeen_2364_col_3-852x1102.jpg\" alt=\"Photograph of a section of the double-living room, featuring a grand piano and a large window offering views of the Eiffel Tower\" width=\"1827\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Large floor-to-ceiling windows offer views of Paris&#8217; most iconic cultural landmarks<\/p>\n<p>Tartan-patterned window treatments and wall coverings were introduced as a nod to quintessential British design.<\/p>\n<p>Located on the sixth floor, the parkside residence boasts views of the city&#8217;s most prominent cultural landmarks including the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2014\/06\/23\/frank-gehrys-fondation-louis-vuitton-set-to-open-in-paris\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Frank Gehry-designed Fondation Louis Vuitton<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The concept was to create a conversation between Paris and London \u2013 merging the grandeur of a French bourgeois apartment with the relaxed, witty spirit of British interiors&#8221; said Simonin.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2266677 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Studio-Asai\u0308-\u2013-Bois-de-Boulogne_dezeen_2364_col_9-852x1103.jpg\" alt=\"A photograph showing the master bedroom, with a green colour scheme. Two tall French windows with green tartan curtains lead out to a small balcony.\" width=\"1826\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The apartment is located next to one of the city&#8217;s largest city parks named the Bois de Boulogne<\/p>\n<p>Studio Asa\u00ef&#8217;s design focused on preserving key aspects of the interior&#8217;s original craftsmanship, which was achieved by restoring the wooden panelling, Versailles parquet flooring and moulded doors.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the use of upcycled Foresso, these restored features contributed to what Simonin described as the &#8220;eco-conscious philosophy&#8221; of the project, with the studio incorporating sustainable methods and materials into its design.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2266668 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Studio-Asai\u0308-\u2013-Bois-de-Boulogne_dezeen_2364_col_0-852x597.jpg\" alt=\"A picture of the large living room, showing the restored wooden panelling, a central seating area made up of modular white sofas and a clear acrylic feature-stool. The back of the room shows an open walkway into the library.\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1656\"  \/>The studio retained key elements of the property&#8217;s traditional framework such as the parquet flooring, wooden panelling and moulded doors<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We preserved the apartment&#8217;s noble framework and layered it with bold colours, unexpected materials, and playful design pieces that bring a sense of movement and freedom&#8221; explained Simonin.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our approach was to reveal rather than recreate \u2013 adding contemporary gestures like lacquered finishes, new lighting, and rich wallpapers that celebrate the architecture instead of competing with it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2266679 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Studio-Asai\u0308-\u2013-Bois-de-Boulogne_dezeen_2364_col_11-852x1102.jpg\" alt=\"A picture of a bath which is tucked into a small space at the end of the bathroom. A small, black, wooden stool sits next to the bath tub to the right of the image.\" width=\"1827\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The studio designed the interior using a range of materials, such as oak, marble, lacquer and a timber terrazzo called Foresso<\/p>\n<p>The finishing touches featured coveted furniture pieces from celebrated designers, including iconic chairs by the likes of Ettore Sottsass, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/gaetano-pesce\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gaetano Pesce<\/a>, Pierre Paulin and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/philippe-starck\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philippe Starck<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The chairs are treated almost like characters in a play. Each one has a personality and history\u2026 their mix reinforces the project&#8217;s spirit: cultured, a bit mischievous and always in dialogue between eras and aesthetics&#8221; described Simonin.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2266676 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Studio-Asai\u0308-\u2013-Bois-de-Boulogne_dezeen_2364_col_8-852x1102.jpg\" alt=\"A picture taken from one side of a teal door frame, showing a wooden chair with a tall back rest.
