Not only did his defeat of Tommy <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/tag\/tommy-fleetwood\" data-auto-tag-linker=\"true\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/tag\/tommy-fleetwood\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fleetwood<\/a> in a playoff earn him the biggest title of his career and a cheque for $1.53m, it also booked his place in the DP World Tour Championship, having begun the tournament below the final qualifying position in 55th.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>However, for other players, there was the disappointment of narrowly missing out despite their best efforts in the first of the Play-Offs.<\/p>\n<p>For some other notable names, their DP World Tour season is over, having not played in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and opting against teeing it up in Dubai. HSBC Championship, while his status as a member of European Ryder Cup team meant he was perfectly entitled to tee it up at the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>However, in mid-October, he announced he was <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/news\/jon-rahm-four-month-break-february-2026\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/news\/jon-rahm-four-month-break-february-2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">taking an extended break following the first <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/tag\/viktor-hovland\" data-auto-tag-linker=\"true\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/tag\/viktor-hovland\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Viktor Hovland<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Like Rahm, though, he wasn\u2019t in the field despite a T6 in his most recent start, the DP World India Championship.<\/p>\n<p><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/news\/viktor-hovland-withdraws-ryder-cup-four-ball\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/news\/viktor-hovland-withdraws-ryder-cup-four-ball\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hovland has been suffering from a neck injury<\/a> that curtailed his involvement in the Ryder Cup and is instead using the time to recover ahead of the 2026 season.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-9e28a79e-68f5-4b4e-9fec-f94cc94169df\" Play-Offs.<\/p>\n<p>The Austrian <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/news\/sepp-straka-withdraws-from-dp-world-tour-play-offs\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/news\/sepp-straka-withdraws-from-dp-world-tour-play-offs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced his withdrawal from the Play-Offs<\/a> ahead of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, opting to use the time to care for his baby son, who was born prematurely.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, he said: \u201cI will be withdrawing from both the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the DP World Tour Championship to focus on my family during this important time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Straka\u2019s absence from the Play-Offs means he is unable to fulfil his minimum Counting Tournament obligation on the DP World Tour this season.<\/p>\n<p>However, the obligation was reduced from four events to two \u201cin recognition of his serious personal circumstances since August.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-2015207a-5aae-4042-bffe-ffd257ac7a8c\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" in the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/news\/live\/world-wide-technology-championship-leaderboard-2025\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/news\/live\/world-wide-technology-championship-leaderboard-2025\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">World Wide Technology Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a good reason for that &#8211; he needs to ensure he is in the top 100 of the FedEx Cup Fall rankings at the end of the PGA Tour season.<\/p>\n<p>Despite a respectable T31 at <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/travel\/rest-of-the-world\/cost-el-cardonal-diamante-cabo-san-lucas\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/travel\/rest-of-the-world\/cost-el-cardonal-diamante-cabo-san-lucas\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">El Cardonal at Diamante<\/a>, Wallace is 97th in the rankings with two events to play, highlighting the need to concentrate on points accumulation on the PGA Tour rather than the DP World Tour at this couldn\u2019t force his way into the field for the first of the Play-Offs.<\/p>\n<p>The closest he got to reaching the top 70 was 74th, which he reached after finishing 17th in July\u2019s Genesis Scottish Open, but despite three more counting appearances following that, including the Genesis Championship, where he placed 30th, he was left stranded in 108th and unable to extend his DP World Tour campaign.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-be228055-b21e-423b-96bf-7cc6ac25a613\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" Zealander had spells inside the top 70 during the season. Still, by mid-July he had slipped beneath the threshold, never to climb back above it.<\/p>\n<p>His most recent DP World Tour start came at the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/news\/fedex-open-de-france-payout\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.golfmonthly.com\/news\/fedex-open-de-france-payout\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Open de France<\/a>, where he placed 14th. That took him to 91st, but without another appearance, he wasn\u2019t able to improve on his position and he missed out on the Play-Offs.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-0213161b-0b5d-4b32-ae03-615f38673bbb\" a result, his DP World Tour appearances have been limited this season and he was last above the top 70 in the rankings following April\u2019s Masters.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, despite starts in several more counting events, most recently at the Open de France, where he placed fifth, he wasn\u2019t able to qualify for the Play-Offs, meaning he will not be appearing in Dubai.<\/p>\n<p><a having been 68th in the rankings ahead of the final regular event of the season, the Genesis Championship.<\/p>\n<p>However, Ding didn\u2019t play in that event, and it meant he slipped to 75th in the rankings, one place beneath the cut-off, bringing an end to his involvement in the DP World Tour this season.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-36db2c3a-98c5-4f8a-83cf-8a939806723e\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>Marcel Schneider<\/p>\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" wasn\u2019t quite enough to book his place in the DP World Tour Championship.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Schneider missed out on a place by the narrowest of margins, falling just 0.28 points shy of Brandon Robinson Thompson, who takes the final place of those who qualified via the Race to Dubai rankings.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-6443023c-1c89-4d0c-81b5-d08f103fb34f\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" rankings, Sterne knew there was work to do to claim a place in the final event of the Play-Offs.<\/p>\n<p>A brilliant 64 in the opening round appeared to set him on his way.
