Accompanied by her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, on her first trip to Australia since 2022, she landed in Brisbane on Tuesday afternoon, before travelling to the barracks.<\/p>\n
There, she was greeted by defence personnel before laying a wreath and observing a minute’s silence for Remembrance Day.<\/p>\n

‘Video evidence that I met a princess’<\/p>\n
The Royal Australian Corps of Signals is a team of soldiers which specialises in communications, electronic warfare and cyber capabilities.<\/p>\n
One of their members, Corporal David Schutze, said he had been a “little bit intimidated” by his meeting with the Princess Royal \u2013 and even his seven-year-old daughter had not believed he would really be doing so.<\/p>\n
“Maybe now I have video evidence that I met a princess,’ he said.<\/p>\n
Despite his initial intimidation, he said Princess Anne had “air of poise and elegance”.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lance Corporal Max Helion from the Seventh Combat Signal Regiment, who also met Princess Anne in Brisbane, described her as “very kind and well-spoken”.<\/p>\n
“I was quite nervous at the start but at the end of the day, she is just another nice person,” he said.<\/p>\n
He said he had never thought his job would lead to him meeting a member of the royal family.<\/p>\n
Lance Corporal Helion said preparations had been underway the barracks for about a week before the colonel-in-chief’s visit.<\/p>\n

This afternoon, the pair attended corps week sports activities at the barracks and met with players.<\/p>\n
The Princess Royal fired the starting pistol, watched a tug of war and met with some of the Signals’ rugby club representatives as well as retired personnel and families.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She also unveiled a ceremonial sculpture and presented trophies and awards.<\/p>\n
In brief public remarks, the Princess Royal thanked those in attendance for their service to the Signals Corps and for their “warm welcome”.<\/p>\n
“Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this celebration, to see just the range of activities that you do now and the pride that you take in that,” she said.<\/p>\n
Princess Anne is in Australia<\/a><\/p>\nThe Princess Royal will make a quick trip to Australia to mark an important military anniversary.<\/p>\n
During her visit to Australia, the Princess Royal has attended official events in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.<\/p>\n
Upon their arrival on Saturday, she and Sir Timothy met Governor-General Sam Mostyn and her husband Simeon Beckett at Admiralty House in Sydney.<\/p>\n
On Monday, she attended a ceremony in Kings Domain Gardens on the edge of Melbourne’s CBD to commemorate police officers killed in the line of duty.<\/p>\n
The Princess Royal is due to leave Australia later today for her next stop, Singapore.<\/p>\n
