<\/p>\n BERKELEY, Calif. \u2013 In a game of runs, Pacific women’s basketball put forth a valiant effort, but the final run belonged to California, who took the 60-52 decision Tuesday night from Haas Pavilion.<\/p>\n The Tigers (1-2) threw the first punch, turning five California (2-1) turnovers into a 14-6 lead, prompting a Golden Bear timeout. In response, the game defining run came from California (2-1), who used an 18-0 run spanning the first and second quarters to take a ten-point lead with 2:40 left until halftime.<\/p>\n Pacific countered with a run of its own to first erase the deficit going into the half, and then extend the run to take a lead as high as nine. The Golden Bears then closed the game on a 36-17 run to get the game to its final score, despite a ferocious push from the Tigers that got the game to a single possession with 80 seconds remaining.<\/p>\n The architect of the Tigers’ 19-point swing was freshman Liv Yergensen<\/a>, who scored the final eight points of the first half to knot the game at the half and then the opening points of the second half to give Pacific the lead back. The ten points she scored in the game came courtesy of the first two three-pointers of her collegiate career and a career-high four free throws. She would also set a personal best in rebounds (five) and minutes played (30).<\/p>\n Once she was done scoring, she passed that mantle off to the combination of senior Sydney Ward<\/a> and junior Nyah Lowery<\/a>. The former put up a team high 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting and two three-pointers. Ward was also effective forcing California mistakes, collecting two steals and drawing five fouls.<\/p>\n The latter reached her ten points also off two three-pointers and another pair of field goals. The junior guard also grabbed six rebounds, one shy of tying her career high.<\/p>\n Sophomore Winner Bartholomew<\/a> continued to flash disruptive capabilities on the defensive end, adding two more steals to her season total, consistent with her per game average entering the game. The team returns home to Stockton for its next five games, beginning on Sunday with the program’s first matchup with Seton Hall. Tipoff from the Alex G.
