\n 82.73 \u2013 it\u2019s the magic number. That\u2019s the maximum possible world rankings point tally that Scotland can achieve across their remaining two fixtures this Autumn.\n<\/p>\n
\n They must hit that highest possible goal as it represents the only remaining potential route to overtaking the current sixth placed side in the world rankings, Argentina.\n<\/p>\n
\n With that number in mind, and with just 13 Test matches involving top 10 nations remaining this year, here is how Scotland finish ahead of enough teams to make the top six.\n<\/p>\n
\n The big five\n<\/p>\n
\n There is currently a significant gap between the top five in the world and those below them.\n<\/p>\n
\n As things stand, it is mathematically impossible for Scotland to overtake South Africa, New Zealand, Ireland or England by the end of November.\n<\/p>\n

\n While there is a hypothetical route for France\u2019s points tally to fall below that of the Scots, there is no route for this to happen without another side passing the dark blues instead.\n<\/p>\n
\n In fact, Scotland will need the other half of the Auld Alliance to come up with wins if they are to stay ahead of their competition in the lower half of the world\u2019s top ten.\n<\/p>\n
\n Tenth and below\n<\/p>\n
\n Even after an excellent result against Australia, there is still a large difference between Italy<\/a> and Scotland in the rankings.\n<\/p>\n \n If Scotland do hit their goal of 82.73 points, they cannot be overtaken by the Azzurri or any of the sides further down the charts.\n<\/p>\n \n Fiji\n<\/p>\n \n The only way that Fiji could throw a spanner in the works would be with a win in Bordeaux against France.\n<\/p>\n \n \n This result would propel the Flying Fijians over the 83 points mark and they would then just need to ensure they followed that up with a win versus Spain the following week.\n<\/p>\n \n What Scotland need: Fiji to lose to either France or Spain.
