{"id":279517,"date":"2025-11-12T10:31:20","date_gmt":"2025-11-12T10:31:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/279517\/"},"modified":"2025-11-12T10:31:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-12T10:31:20","slug":"what-sebastian-vettel-thinks-of-christian-horners-red-bull-f1-exit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/279517\/","title":{"rendered":"What Sebastian Vettel thinks of Christian Horner\u2019s Red Bull F1 exit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Sebastian Vettel has admitted he was \u201csurprised\u201d by Christian Horner\u2019s shock exit from Red Bull earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In July, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/f1\/teams\/red-bull-racing\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Red Bull<\/a> announced that they had parted ways with Horner, with Laurent Mekies replacing him with immediate effect.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Horner had been part of the team since 2005, overseeing their rise to world champions in 2010.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Driving for Red Bull, Vettel won all four of his world titles with the team before eventually leaving for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/f1\/teams\/ferrari\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ferrari<\/a> in 2015.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Vettel, who was in attendance at the 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, gave his view on Horner\u2019s departure and his replacement, Mekies.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cSurprised. I mean, Christian has been there for so long, since the very beginning and knows this team inside out,\u201d Vettel told Sky Sports.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI think for this year, everything was in place. I know Laurent as well, the success, and I worked with him and he\u2019s a really, really great person.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cBut I think Christian left some big footsteps, not just because of all the success he\u2019s had with the team, but also I think he was such a central part of the team. He knew what was going on and so on.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI\u2019m not completely aware of the organisation, the structure, and especially the plan for the future. But that\u2019s where I think it\u2019s valid to say, let\u2019s wait and see how it turns out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vettel on possible F1 return<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Vettel called time on his F1 career at the end of 2022 following a lacklustre final season with Aston Martin.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Since then, the German has been linked with a return to F1.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Most speculation has centred on Vettel rejoining Red Bull as a possible advisor, potentially replacing Helmut Marko.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">When asked about returning to F1 in some capacity, Vettel said: \u201cI don\u2019t know. I read there was a lot of talk about it and so on. I did speak with Helmut a little bit, but it never got anywhere, never gained any traction. I think, for me, I am fairly happy where I am in life right now.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI love F1. In the beginning, I thought I\u2019m not sure whether I want to keep watching because I need to get a distance.
