Prince Edward will visit Ghana for an official visit just months after reports Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were eyeing the West African nation for another faux royal tour. \u00a0<\/p>\n
The Duke of Edinburgh is set to touch down in Accra on November 23rd for the visit, which will mark the prince\u2019s first visit to Ghana since 2018.<\/p>\n
The port city on the gulf of Guinea was a favourite destination of Edward\u2019s mother Queen Elizabeth II.<\/p>\n
Ghana has been a republic since 1960 but remains a member of the \u201ccommonwealth of nations\u201d and maintains warm relations with the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n
The nation was also reportedly on the Sussexes\u2019 wish list for a possible \u201cofficial visit\u201d after their much-publicised tours of Colombia and Nigeria.<\/p>\n
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex set off on a whirlwind 72-hour tour of Nigeria in May 2024 during which the couple promoted the Invictus Games and met with top leaders.<\/p>\n
Harry and Meghan\u2019s visit also attracted controversy after it emerged they were photographed meeting a wanted international criminal.<\/p>\n
As non-working royals, all international trips conducted by the Sussexes are in a private capacity without the guidance of the palace or the British Home Office.<\/p>\n
King Charles was reportedly furious about the visit and is worried the Sussexes are attempting to destablise the Commonwealth and set up a rival royal court.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe ultimate fear for King Charles and William is that Meghan\u2019s rebelliousness actually ends up making her more appealing than the understated members of official team royal,\u201d a source told the Mirror newspaper.<\/p>\n
In February, fresh reports emerged that Ghanian leaders were going to \u201cpull out all the stops\u201d to convince the Sussexes to fly to Accra after the publicity surrounding the Nigeria visit.<\/p>\n
“Ghana has extended an invite for this year,\u201d an insider told The Mail on Sunday.<\/p>\n
“There is certainly excitement and anticipation for a visit.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Whenever they are ready, the red carpet will be rolled out for them. A selection of incredible villas with top security would be set aside for them.”<\/p>\n
Instead, it appears the Ghanaian government has invited an actual working royal to tour their nation.<\/p>\n
