TICKFORD Racing and Castrol have unveiled another Sandown retro livery stunner on the Mustang of Thomas Randle<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Having adopted a TOM\u2019s Supra-inspired scheme<\/a> last year at the Victorian venue, the #55 will this weekend pay homage to Australian motorsport legend Larry Perkins<\/a> via a 1995-esque saw tooth design.<\/p>\n

Randle will also wear a retro-themed race suit and helmet for the occasion, as he looks to leverage his semi-finalist status into a grand final ticket for Adelaide.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel really honoured,\u201d said the 29-year-old.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s such an iconic livery from the 1990s with Larry Perkins behind the wheel. Larry is a legend of our sport and the wins he had at Bathurst were all special \u2013 the most famous being the last-to-first in 1995.<\/p>\n

\u201cLarry had three Bathurst victories in that livery and a Sandown 500 win as well, so it\u2019s probably the perfect time to be running the paint scheme on our Mustang.<\/p>\n

\u201cCastrol don\u2019t do things in halves and the fact we\u2019re not just running the livery at Sandown, but we\u2019ve got the race suit to go with it and also the same helmet design that Larry ran during that time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got to thank Castrol, the Perkins family and Tickford Racing for putting this together, especially with the high stakes of being in the semi-final.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, it\u2019s a big round at Sandown, being in contention and in the semi-final. It\u2019s going to be all about maximum aggression: we\u2019ve got nothing to lose with two races at 250km each and we\u2019ll be on maximum attack.<\/p>\n

\u201cCarrying those iconic colours\u2026 hopefully it gives us an extra boost and I want to make Larry and our team proud.\u201d<\/p>\n

Perkins himself has given the throwback his tick of approval.<\/p>\n

\u201cI always thought that they were good looking cars, if that means anything, but they certainly looked exceptional when it was first across the line!\u201d said the six-time Bathurst 1000 winner.<\/p>\n

\u201cThomas\u2019 car looks very much like my 1995 Bathurst winner and I think the designer has done a very good job. I hope he can have the same success at Sandown this weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was nice to host Thomas at our family farm in Cowangie ahead of Sandown. We\u2019ve been here for 105 years. My granddad first took on the land when he came back from World War I, and my dad was born on the farm.<\/p>\n

\u201cI grew up here, I went to school down the road and now I\u2019m back living here. I have a lot of memories and I still really enjoy it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Castrol brand and product manager Jan Willink added: \u201cIt\u2019s fantastic to be able to celebrate Castrol Racing\u2019s rich history at Sandown this weekend and the vital role that legends like Larry have played in shaping it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can\u2019t wait to see the car on track as Thomas Randle chases a spot in the bp Adelaide Grand Final and a shot at etching his own name in the Castrol Racing record books.\u201d<\/p>\n
