{"id":283809,"date":"2025-11-14T11:10:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-14T11:10:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/283809\/"},"modified":"2025-11-14T11:10:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-14T11:10:11","slug":"visions2030-installation-prompts-visitors-to-imagine-hopeful-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/283809\/","title":{"rendered":"Visions2030 installation prompts visitors to imagine &#8220;hopeful&#8221; future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York-based design studio Visions2030 has created a trio of domes installed at the Museum of Tomorrow in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/rio-de-janeiro\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rio de Janeiro<\/a>, where visitors fabricate a vision of the future via a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/ai\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI<\/a> prompts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visions2030.studio\/programs\/the-lumisphere\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Lumisphere Experience<\/a> (The Lumisphere) is temporarily located in front of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2015\/12\/17\/science-museum-of-tomorrow-santiago-calatrava-opens-rio-de-janeiro-brazil\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Santiago Calatrava-designed Museum of Tomorrow<\/a> and consists of three Buckminster Fuller-informed domes, which guide visitors through a meditative experience where they eventually create an ideal picture of a future environment using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/ai\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Artificial Intelligence<\/a> (AI).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2269465 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/lumisphere-rio-de-janeiro-museum-of-tomorrow-visions2030_dezeen_2364_col_0-852x639.jpg\" alt=\"Lumisphere Brazil\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"  \/>Visions2030 has installed the Lumisphere Experience installation at the Museum of Tomorrow in Brazil<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In this audiovisual environment, where artificial intelligence technology and culture meet, the audience is encouraged to awaken creativity, expand collective awareness, and imagine innovative and hopeful solutions to urgent global challenges,&#8221; said the team.<\/p>\n<p>Created by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visions2030.studio\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Visions2030<\/a> and technical partners <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mom.design\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Minds Over Matter<\/a>, the installation encourages visitors to &#8220;dream big&#8221; in the face of often-negative narratives around climate change.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2269467 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/lumisphere-rio-de-janeiro-museum-of-tomorrow-visions2030_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x479.jpg\" alt=\"Lumisphere Brazil\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1330\"  \/>It consists of three domes<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The point is to dream big and to get people to ask themselves \u2013 what do you want the future to look like?&#8221; Visions2030 founder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.careylovelace.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Carey Lovelace<\/a> told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors first enter the Orientation dome, where they receive headphones and gather around a small half globe, or &#8220;digital campfire&#8221;, which features colourful, shifting visuals projected onto its exterior.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2269470 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/lumisphere-rio-de-janeiro-museum-of-tomorrow-visions2030_dezeen_2364_col_5-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Lumisphere Brazil\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>Participants are encouraged to imagine a better world through audio narration. Photo by Rodrigo Romano<\/p>\n<p>An audio narration acknowledges that the earth is at risk due to climate change, but proposes human imagination as a partial antidote and prepares participants to take part in the remaining installation.<\/p>\n<p>After the narration completes, visitors enter the second Immersion dome, which is filled with reclining seating. Photo by Rodrigo Romano<\/p>\n<p>Visitors then remove their headphones and enter the third and last Creation dome, which is lined with tablets and screens displaying images of different, AI-generated worlds.<\/p>\n<p>On the tablets, prompts guide visitors to create their &#8220;dream world&#8221;, asking questions such as &#8220;What types of landscapes do you envision in your dream world?&#8221; and &#8220;What kind of mood or vibe does it have?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2269472 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/lumisphere-rio-de-janeiro-museum-of-tomorrow-visions2030_dezeen_2364_col_7-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Lumisphere by Visions2030\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1577\"  \/>In the last dome, participants generate ideal future environments using AI prompts. Photo by Rodrigo Romano.<\/p>\n<p>Lovelace said she sees the use of AI in the installation as a &#8220;tool&#8221;, despite its &#8220;downsides&#8221; \u2013 such as land usage of data centres and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/04\/25\/ai-data-centre-demand-energy-transition\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">energy consumption<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s a lot of future shock around AI, there&#8217;s a lot of fear,&#8221; said Lovelace. &#8220;To me, AI [is like] a hammer \u2013 it&#8217;s a tool. It&#8217;s something that we can use the way we want to use it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2023\/09\/25\/earth-edition-installations-california-eco-futures\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/earth-edition-festival-visions-2030-california_dezeen_2364_sq-4-1-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Geodesic domes at Earth Edition\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> &#8220;Solarpunk&#8221; installations feature at Earth Edition festival in California\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As part of its installation in Rio de Janeiro, the Lumisphere team partnered with research organisation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iftf.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Institute for the Future<\/a> (IFTF) to survey 14,000 participants on their experience and to examine the data gathered from the installation.<\/p>\n<p>According to the team, among other results, the data showed that &#8220;the ideal world has a positive, sunny, peaceful, and natural atmosphere&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2269476 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/lumisphere-rio-de-janeiro-museum-of-tomorrow-visions2030_dezeen_2364_col_11-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Lumisphere installation in Rio\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>An image is then generated and displayed on public screens. Photo by Rodrigo Romano.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Words such as &#8216;natural&#8217;, &#8216;harmonious&#8217;, and &#8216;peaceful&#8217; stand out, reinforcing that the imagined setting is not only beautiful but also emotionally tranquil and healthy,&#8221; said the team.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Futuristic, sci-fi, cyber, or dystopian aesthetics were rarely mentioned, indicating that \u2013 even in a future with technology \u2013 respondents desire a human and natural environment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Lumisphere was first on view as part of several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2023\/09\/25\/earth-edition-installations-california-eco-futures\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;solar punk&#8221; installations created for a festival at the California Institute of Art<\/a>. It was installed in Rio de Janeiro to coincide with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/11\/06\/earthshot-prize-winners-2025-rio-de-janiero-brazil\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">this year&#8217;s Earthshot Prize awards<\/a> and the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference, which also took place in Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The exterior photography is by Leonardo Zielinsky, courtesy of Visions2030 and Minds Over Matter.
