{"id":284038,"date":"2025-11-14T13:36:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-14T13:36:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/284038\/"},"modified":"2025-11-14T13:36:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-14T13:36:09","slug":"16-of-scotlands-womens-world-cup-squad-given-one-year-contracts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/284038\/","title":{"rendered":"16 of Scotland&#8217;s Women&#8217;s World Cup squad given one-year contracts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Scottish Rugby said those &#8220;selected for Scotland women are remunerated separately through the national team agreement&#8221;, which &#8220;is in addition to any Scottish Rugby support they may receive&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">And the union explained: &#8220;This means players, regardless of whether they are supported by Scottish Rugby or not, are paid for the time in camp preparing for Test matches &#8211; and match fees if selected to play.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Scottish-based players supported include the University of Edinburgh&#8217;s Emily Coubrough, Nicole Flynn, Aila Ronald, Alex Stewart and Hannah Walker, Corstorphine Cougars duo Adelle Ferrie and Merryn Gunderson, Molly Poolman and Hannah Ramsay of Watsonians, and Stirling County pair Holland Bogan and Emily Norval.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Poppy Fletcher, Poppy Mellanby and Imogen Spence, of the University of Edinburgh, Heriot&#8217;s Rugby&#8217;s Megan Hyland, Talei Tawake of Watsonians and Stirling County duo Ceitidh Ainsworthand Sky Phimister are listed as being on &#8220;development&#8221; sport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Managing director of women&#8217;s rugby Gemma Fay said: &#8220;Securing the financial commitment to expand the number of supported players is a clear sign of Scottish Rugby&#8217;s belief in the potential of this group and the future of the game, particularly as we begin a new Rugby World Cup cycle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We&#8217;re focused on creating the right environments locally in Scotland where players can train, play and recover at a high level&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Performance director David Nucifora added: &#8220;It&#8217;s important that we make a prompt and purposeful start to the new Rugby World Cup programme. Performance is all about decision making and the process to identify players for support reflects that. These decisions are made carefully and with the future in mind.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The door remains open for Scotland selection; contracts are just one part of the picture.
