OUTGOING Dick Johnson<\/a> Racing chief David Noble has paid tribute to Will Davison<\/a>\u2019s contribution to Supercars ahead of his 600th championship race start.<\/p>\n

The penultimate round of the season is also the second-last of Davison\u2019s tenure at DJR, following confirmation that he is parting with the team at the end of the season \u2013 despite a year being left on his contract.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want to recognise and pay homage to Will and his contribution and thank him on behalf of our organisation for what he\u2019s brought,\u201d Noble said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s in esteemed company, hitting 600 races this weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe mark of a champion, for me, is the ability to perform at a high level consistently and over a long period of time, and he ticks all of those boxes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve extremely enjoyed working with him over the last three years, the quality of the athlete that he is, preparing and presenting himself in the fashion that he does.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe gets in the car every single session, wanting to improve (whether it\u2019s by) a hundredth or a tenth. That\u2019s just a credit to himself and the condition that he\u2019s in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davison\u2019s place will be taken by Super2 points leader Rylan Gray<\/a>, whose appointment was announced hours after Davison\u2019s departure was made public and is trackside with the team at Sandown.<\/p>\n

Prior to the reshuffle, it was widely expected that the 2026 season would be Davison\u2019s last as a full-time driver before moving into a co-driver role with the team.<\/p>\n

That role was still on the table for Davison amid DJR\u2019s move to recruit Gray for next year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was always in the conversation,\u201d Noble explained. \u201cThat was always in the plan.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor whatever reason that doesn\u2019t work out, we go our separate ways but we thank him enormously for what he\u2019s done.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow we look at what that pairing looks like for next year.\u201d<\/p>\n

V8 Sleuth understands that Tony D\u2019Alberto is most likely to secure the co-driver role alongside Gray at next year\u2019s enduros.<\/p>\n

Noble also believes that the circumstances surrounding what is likely the end of Davison\u2019s full-time Supercars career shouldn\u2019t overshadow his achievements and contribution to the sport as a whole.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere aren\u2019t many fairytales in sport. Ash Barty\u2019s one; Joe Daniher and Oscar McInerney are a couple that have won a flag (AFL grand final) and then gone out in their own manner,\u201d Noble said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut that moment shouldn\u2019t discount his career and what he\u2019s done and how we should applaud his career \u2013 not just what he\u2019s done for us but from the competition.<\/p>\n
