A couple of tough injuries for one of the best teams in the Metropolitan Division. <\/p>\n

During the team\u2019s game against the Vancouver Canucks<\/a>, Carolina Hurricanes<\/a> forwards Seth Jarvis and Jesperi Kotkaniemi both left the game early due to injuries.<\/p>\n

Jarvis\u2019 injury occurred early in the first period. When battling for the puck behind the Canucks\u2019 net, Jarvis was clipped by teammate Andrei Svechnikov\u2019s stick in the eye. <\/p>\n

Jarvis was attended to immediately by training staff while skating off the ice. It was just his second shift of the game, as the 23-year-old picked up a secondary assist on Svechnikov\u2019s goal that tied the game 1-1 just moments before. Jarvis was ruled out with an upper-body injury.<\/p>\n

It hasn\u2019t been made clear what led Kotkaniemi to exit Friday\u2019s game. The Finnish center was noticeably absent from the Carolina bench when the second period began. The team later confirmed that Kotkaniemi wouldn\u2019t be returning due to a lower-body injury<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Kotkaniemi had registered a plus\/minus of -1 in 7:19 of ice time. In 11 shifts, he blocked a shot, a shot on goal, and three hits.<\/p>\n

Jarvis had appeared in the Canes\u2019 first 17 games of the season, scoring 10 goals and six assists for 16 points. His helper against the Canucks gave him five points over the past six games as well. The Winnipeg native has been a sparkplug for a Hurricanes team that has been criticized for its lack of star power. However, Jarvis\u2019 ability, work ethic and charisma have made him a fan favorite in Raleigh over the past few seasons.<\/p>\n

Kotkaniemi had missed just two games thus far, having notched two goals and three assists for five points.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A couple of tough injuries for one of the best teams in the Metropolitan Division.
