{"id":286364,"date":"2025-11-15T14:54:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-15T14:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/286364\/"},"modified":"2025-11-15T14:54:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-15T14:54:11","slug":"blues-prelim-bound-with-massive-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/286364\/","title":{"rendered":"Blues prelim-bound with massive win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                Match Report\n            <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__summary\">\n                Carlton has surged into a preliminary final win with an incredible performance against Hawthorn.\n            <\/p>\n<p>\n                            By Cristian Filippo, Carlton Media\n                            <\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">A COMPLETE performance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Carlton has produced its best performance of the season &#8211; and maybe the best in its AFLW history &#8211; in the semi final against Hawthorn, producing a 46-point victory at IKON Park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">On the back of a blistering first quarter, the Blues led from start to finish against the Hawks, prevailing 11.13 (79) to 4.9 (33).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">It was a perfect night for the Blues on Abbie McKay\u2019s 25th birthday, sister Sophie McKay kicked three outstanding goals while the Blues\u2019 midfield fired on all cylinders in the comprehensive win.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Mimi Hill set the scene in the first quarter, producing 11 first-quarter disposals as the Blues rode an incredible wave of momentum for the entirety of the opening term.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Mia Austin kicked things off with a goal from the pocket before Hill herself rounded things out with a right-footed snap on the quarter-time siren, with Carlton defensive unit restricting Hawthorn from registering a score.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">If not for inaccuracy, the Blues\u2019 Club record quarter-time score of 4.7 (31) would\u2019ve been even higher.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">It was a much more even second term as the Hawks started to get their offensive game going, but the Blues were able to hold up well in a term where the Hawks missed opportunities of their own.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The game was played much more in Carlton\u2019s defensive half, with Harriet Cordner typically holding up brilliantly while Maddy Hendrie fought her battles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Scoreboard relief came off the boot of Austin and McKay, ensuring the Blues still held a commanding 27-point lead at the main break.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The contest could\u2019ve gone one of two ways at the commencement of the second half &#8211; and fortunately for the Blues, it was emphatically in their favour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Leaders stood up everywhere you looked, with Abbie McKay kicking a captain\u2019s goal to start the term while Hill produced another 11 disposals in the third term.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">They weren\u2019t alone, with All-Australian nominee Dayna Finn kicking back-to-back goals and Maddy Guerin surging the ball out of the middle at will as Carlton kicked out to a game-high lead at the final change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">There was another goal for Sophie McKay &#8211; with another celebration to match &#8211; in the final term, and while the Hawks kicked the final two goals of the term, the damage was done from a Navy Blue perspective on a night where the Blues dominated disposals (+31), clearances (+16), contested possessions (+18) and tackles (+12).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The Blues will now head to Brisbane next Saturday night with a Grand Final spot on the line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">HAWTHORN\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 0.0 \u00a0 \u00a0 2.4 \u00a0 \u00a0 4.6\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 4.9 (33)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">CARLTON \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 4.7 \u00a0 \u00a0 6.7 \u00a0 \u00a0 10.10 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 11.13 (79)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">GOALS<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Carlton: S.McKay 3, Austin 2, Finn 2, Goss, Hill, A.McKay, Scholz<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Match Report Carlton has surged into a preliminary final win with an incredible performance against Hawthorn.
