\n\tDavid Zucker, who directed the first two \u201cNaked Gun\u201d films, recently told \u201cWoman\u2019s World<\/a>\u201d he was not impressed by the reboot led by Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson. He said the film \u201ctotally missed\u201d the now-classic spoof style of comedy pioneered by Zucker, his brother Jerry and Jim Abrahams.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMy brother, Jerry, and our partner, Jim Abrahams, started doing spoof comedies 50 years ago, and we originated our own style \u2014 and we did that so well that it looks easy, evidently,\u201d Zucker explained. \u201cPeople started copying it, like Seth MacFarlane for the new \u2018Naked Gun.\u2019 He totally missed it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMacFarlane was one of the leading producers on the project and contributed \u201cadditional literary material,\u201d according to IMDb. Lonely Island co-founder Akiva Schaffer directed the film and penned the script with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand.<\/p>\n

\n\tZucker also took issue with the production costs of the 2025 \u201cNaked Gun.\u201d The reboot carried a $42 million price tag, while Zucker\u2019s 1988 original cost $14.5 million, according to AFI<\/a>. However, when adjusted for inflation, $14.5 million comes out to roughly $38 million in 2025, which is not far off from the budget of the new \u201cNaked Gun.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou shouldn\u2019t spend too much money on comedies, and one of our rules is about technical pizzazz,\u201d Zucker said. \u201cBig budgets and comedy are opposites, and in the new \u2018Naked Gun,\u2019 you could see that they spent a lot of money on scenes full of technical pizzazz while trying to copy our style.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cAirplane!\u201d director added that he feels the new \u201cNaked Gun\u201d was made exclusively for financial reasons.
