\n\tGlen Powell<\/a> is known for his confident charisma and star power, but early in his career, he found himself so starstruck by Dustin Hoffman<\/a> that he bombed a script reading with the legendary actor.<\/p>\n

\n\tPowell recounted the humbling story during a recent appearance on \u201cHot Ones<\/a>.\u201d \u201cMy first week [in Hollywood], I found myself at a dinner sitting next to Dustin Hoffman,\u201d he recalled. \u201cHe saw a movie I did called \u2018The Great Debaters,\u2019 and the fact that he saw this movie just blew my mind. I was like \u2018This is the coolest moment of my entire life.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHoffman complimented Powell on his acting and said, \u201cI got something for you. Let\u2019s keep in touch.\u201d \u201cThe Graduate\u201d actor followed through. \u201cLiterally a couple days later, I got a call at my house from Dustin Hoffman,\u201d says Powell. \u201cAnd I\u2019m losing my mind. I\u2019m like \u2018This is the coolest thing,\u2019 and [Hoffman\u2019s] like \u2018I\u2019m gonna invite you to my office and I want you to read for something.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPowell took up the invitation. He visited Hoffman and was presented with some pages to read with him, but the scene quickly turned sour. \u201cI started reading them, but I was so in awe that Dustin Hoffman was sitting across from me,\u201d said Powell. \u201cHe\u2019s one of my favorite actors of all time. As I\u2019m reading, I\u2019m watching the life drain from his eyes, being like, \u2018This guy sucks so bad.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Oh no.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe situation progressed for the worse. \u201cI\u2019m watching him and I\u2019m losing him,\u201d continued Powell. \u201cAnd then I\u2019m being like, \u2018Yeah, you\u2019re losing him,\u2019 and then I look back and I\u2019m losing him even more. And I left so defeated.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPowell went on to explain that he was able to get over his starstruck tendencies in later auditions when he came to accept actors on all levels as players and performers in pursuit of something fun.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhat you start to realize is that all this business is is play. You start looking at these guys as, like, legends, and then you start looking at them as collaborators who are just trying to make magic for audiences around the world, you know?\u201d he said. \u201cI think that\u2019s the difference. I think the excitement of this business hasn\u2019t worn off, but my perspective has.\u201d\u00a0 <\/p>\n

\n\tWhile Powell is yet to be in a movie alongside Hoffman, he became a recognizable face after sharing the screen with Tom Cruise in 2022\u2019s \u201cTop Gun: Maverick.\u201d He has since starred in the hit romcom \u201cAnyone But You\u201d opposite Sydney Sweeney and the adventure summer blockbuster \u201cTwisters.\u201d He is currently starring in \u201cThe Running Man<\/a>,\u201d directed by Edgar Wright and adapted from a novel by Stephen King.<\/p>\n
