{"id":287612,"date":"2025-11-16T05:03:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-16T05:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/287612\/"},"modified":"2025-11-16T05:03:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-16T05:03:09","slug":"engine-explosion-delays-sandown-500-race-start","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/287612\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Engine explosion\u2019 delays Sandown 500 race start"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE start of the final Supercars race of the Sandown 500 weekend has been delayed due to a \u201cmassive\u201d oil clean-up operation.<\/p>\n<p>Race 31 of the 2026 Supercars season was slated to get underway at 3:20pm AEST, but is expected to get underway after a 20-minute delay at 3:40pm.<\/p>\n<p>An engine blown by a competitor in the final Touring Car Masters support race laid a significant trail of oil around more than half of the Sandown circuit, from halfway down the back straight into pitlane.<\/p>\n<p>Despite an extensive clean-up effort, the condition of the circuit prompted the following support race \u2013 the final race of the V8 SuperUtes season \u2013 to be abandoned.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/v8-sleuth-magazine-subscription-issues-1-6?utm_source=SRBuyButton&amp;utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/cdn\/shop\/files\/sleuth-mag-subscription-1-6_1024x1024.jpg?v=1760675434\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Efforts to remove the oil-dry powder from the circuit continued in lieu of the V8 SuperUtes race, and into the time window for Supercars\u2019 pre-race procedure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t seen a clean-up like this before; it\u2019s massive,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-90-Mark-Skaife\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Skaife<\/a> said of the result of the \u201cengine explosion\u201d in the broadcast.<\/p>\n<p>Pit exit remained closed past 2:55pm, which was the time the field was scheduled to head out onto the circuit.<\/p>\n<p>The cars eventually headed out at 3:05pm, although circuit conditions remained sketchy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was actually quite loose;
