Eugenie Bouchard will play her last professional tennis tournament at the Canadian Open this week, in front of a home crowd in Montreal. <\/p>\n

Bouchard announced her retirement<\/a> from the sport in a post on social media, taking to Instagram to reveal she would have one last dance at the WTA<\/a> 1000 event. <\/p>\n

The Canadian has been largely inactive for the past two years, featuring at just a handful of tournaments in 2024 and 2025.<\/p>\n

In the seasons that followed her appearance in the 2014 Wimbledon final, Bouchard has struggled to perform at Grand Slams<\/a> and failed to qualify for five majors in a row from 2021 to 2023. <\/p>\n

At the age of 31, the former world number five has decided to move on; a choice her former doubles partner, Jessica Pegula<\/a>, recently discussed.<\/p>\n

Pegula said of Bouchard<\/a> in her press conference ahead of the Canadian Open: \u201cWe always text each other because we know that we are a day apart or whatever it is.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe share the same agent, so I have known her for such a long time, and I got to hang out with her a little bit in DC because she was doing some work there, and we did some sponsor stuff together.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe seems really content with being able to retire here. She just said it wasn\u2019t worth it in the end with a lot of injuries.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I think she is honestly kind of an iconic player for the Tour, and what she was able to bring, and I have always really got along with her, and I thought she has always worked really hard.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know if we ever played against each other in singles. I think [we played] in juniors once, but we played doubles quite a bit actually, and always did pretty well.<\/p>\n

\u201cI always enjoyed playing with her and I know it\u2019s going to be an emotional week for her, a little bit, so I hope she enjoys it and enjoys the amazing career that she has been able to have.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know she has a lot of friends and family here so I am sure it will be a special week for her.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Jessica Pegula says why people are drawn to Eugenie Bouchard<\/p>\n

The former US Open champion acknowledged Bouchard\u2019s impact on the sport in Canada, stating: \u201cI mean I feel like she really put Canadian tennis on the map a little bit. <\/p>\n

\u201cWith how well she did when she was younger, doing well in juniors and then doing well, making the finals of Wimbledon.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like tennis has gotten really big here, and I think she is one of the reasons why. I think she has helped Tennis Canada grow and got more players playing, and now they have a really good crop of players on the men\u2019s and women\u2019s side, so I think that is part of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think she is a fun personality. She is outgoing on socials whenever she is playing and I think competing really hard and always spoke her mind, and believed in what she believed in and how she wanted to do things. I think people are always drawn to someone like that.\u201d<\/p>\n
