A development application has been submitted for a new $90 million mental health facility in Launceston, marking a significant step forward to improve mental health outcomes in the state\u2019s north.<\/p>\n

The Northern Mental Health Precinct, to be located at 52 Frankland Street, forms part of the broader Launceston General Hospital Precinct Masterplan and will replace the current Northside Unit.<\/p>\n

The development will feature a 30-bed mental health inpatient unit, a Recovery College, Safe Haven, dedicated car park and a link bridge connecting it to the Launceston General Hospital.<\/p>\n

Health Minister Bridget Archer said the facility will transform mental health care in the region.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe precinct will provide a contemporary, home-like environment for immediate support, brief interventions, education and assistance in navigating services,\u201d Archer said.<\/p>\n

A key focus of the facility is to reduce pressure on emergency services while providing better patient outcomes.<\/p>\n

\u201cImportantly, it will improve mental health outcomes by enabling timely access to care and reducing avoidable Emergency Department presentations,\u201d Archer said.<\/p>\n

The state government has collaborated with clinicians, stakeholders and community members to develop the design.<\/p>\n

The final concept incorporates feedback gathered to deliver optimal results for staff, patients and visitors.<\/p>\n
