Tess Flintoff’s clutch, late hitting cut the tension as the Renegades toppled the Stars in the WBBL’s Melbourne derby.<\/p>\n

Chasing 142 for victory at Junction Oval, the allrounder (17 off nine) held her nerve with a six, four and four off Annabel Sutherland’s penultimate over to clinch the win with four wickets and seven balls to spare.<\/p>\n

The Stars had given themselves every chance with some tight bowling after Courtney Webb (37) and Sophie Molineux (32) had put defending champions the Renegades on track.<\/p>\n

Needing a run a ball in the final four overs, both Deandra Dottin and Georgia Wareham holed out to heap the pressure on the lower order.<\/p>\n

But, needing 12 off 10 balls, Flintoff was up to the task against her former club.<\/p>\n

Sydney Sixers rising star Caoimhe Bray needed to be told she had taken a hat-trick, as the 16-year-old added another WBBL highlight in a thumping derby defeat of the Thunder.<\/p>\n

First she split two leg-side fielders with a swipe that hit the rope before hammering a back-foot drive over cover to level the scores.<\/p>\n

Victory came courtesy of a sweetly timed drive over mid-off to put the Renegades (3-1) into second behind the unbeaten Hobart (3-0).<\/p>\n

Earlier, Meg Lanning (three) recorded a rare failure, leaving Sutherland (29) and Marizanne Kapp (22) to pilot the Stars’ innings before Kim Garth’s (29 off 19) late hitting.<\/p>\n

Dottin (3-20 off three overs) took the last three wickets.<\/p>\n

In Sunday’s opening fixture Sophie Devine’s intervention tore Adelaide apart, before the heavens opened to hand Perth a dominant win.<\/p>\n

The veteran New Zealand allrounder took 3-12, including a peach to dismiss danger batter Tahlia McGrath first ball.<\/p>\n

Her delivery shaped into McGrath’s pads, before straightening off the pitch and clipping the top of middle stump.<\/p>\n

The Strikers never recovered, bowled out for 112 no thanks to the nonsensical run-out of Ellie Johnston (33 off 21), who was the only batter to find rhythm.<\/p>\n

Devine (5no) was at the crease when rain arrived, the Scorchers 2-55 in the 10th over.<\/p>\n

The match was abandoned and a nine-run victory declared, according to the Duckworth-Lewis method.<\/p>\n

Form batter Beth Mooney was dismissed first ball but opening partner Katie Mack (24no off 30) put the Scorchers in a winning position, making the most of a missed stumping chance off Sophie Eccleston earlier in her innings.<\/p>\n
