However, legendary coach Wayne Bennett called the reported cutback a \u201cpretty fair reduction\u201d and has his doubts whether it ends up coming to fruition. <\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t care how many rounds we play, but it\u2019s about the money \u2026 Players won\u2019t accept being paid less and clubs won\u2019t want to get less with NRL grants and if we play less games,\u201d Bennett said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you go from 27 rounds to 19 rounds, it\u2019s a pretty fair reduction.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the broadcasters are happy to pay the same amount of money, fair enough, but I\u2019m not sure if it will really happen.<\/p>\n
\u201cLess games certainly means players aren\u2019t as tired at the end of the season, but they tend to recover pretty well now.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will be a decision made by the clubs and the RLPA because at the end of the day it could have an impact on the amount of money they get paid now and what that means for the salary cap down the track.\u201d<\/p>\n
