Image: Richard Gresham \/ Speedcafe<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-triple-eight-premiair-testing-queensland-raceway-ipswich-super440\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PremiAir ran an evaluation day test at Queensland Raceway on Monday<\/a> in which it gave laps to Herne, Super2 driver Nash Morris and SuperUte racer Cody Brewczynski.<\/p>\n<p>The team publicly billed it as a shootout between Herne and Morris for the only remaining seat on the Endurance Cup grid \u2013 the co-drive alongside Richie Stanaway in the #62 Camaro.<\/p>\n<p>However, it\u2019s been thought for some time that <a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-nash-morris-premiair-racing-bathurst-co-drive-endurance-cup\/#:~:text=Nash%20Morris%20appears%20set%20to,1000&#039;s%20latest%20second%2Dgeneration%20story.&amp;text=Nash%20Morris%20drove%20PremiAir&#039;s%20Camaros,at%20The%20Bend%20and%20Bathurst.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Morris is as good as locked into the drive<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The somewhat bizarre backwards and forwards included <a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-premiair-racing-co-drive-nathan-herne-nash-morris-reaction-bathurst-bend\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Herne being told by the team in May that he was out of contention<\/a>, only to later be recalled for the evaluation test.<\/p>\n<p>PremiAir consultant Roland Dane was in the garage for the test and is said to be playing a role in the decision-making ahead of an announcement this week.<\/p>\n<p>A longtime friend of the Morris family, Dane\u2019s presence only heightened expectations that the son of 2014 Bathurst 1000 winner Paul will be confirmed in the seat.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tWATCH: Supercars stars in Supercheap Auto \u2018Police Chase\u2019 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/44ZmR5b\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Click here<\/a> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-roland-dane-premiair-racing-co-driver-nash-morris-nathan-herne\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roland Dane advising PremiAir on driver decision<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, Herne was eager to make the most of Monday\u2019s laps, which marked his first proper hitout in a Gen3 car outside ride day duties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s no secret I\u2019ve been trying to make it here for a fair few years now,\u201d Herne told Speedcafe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes it feels a bit frustrating that I should be there and I\u2019m not there yet, but this is probably the closest I\u2019ve been and there\u2019s no point throwing a tantrum whilst I\u2019m this close.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve just got to take it as it comes. If it happens this year, it happens, if it doesn\u2019t, it doesn\u2019t, I\u2019ll come back next year. I feel like I\u2019m the closest I\u2019ve ever been.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully I\u2019ll just get that one shot and make sure I do a good job of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-996946\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/2025-Supercars-Queensland-Raceway-Testing-Evaluation-Z81_7156_.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1280\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Nathan Herne and Ludo Lacroix. Image: Richard Gresham \/ Speedcafe<\/p>\n<p>Herne was famously denied a Bathurst 1000 start with Garry Rogers Motorsport in 2020 due to not having the required Superlicence points.<\/p>\n<p>Working closely with PremiAir technical boss Ludo Lacroix and #62 engineer Andrew Gilliam, Herne said braking technique and the feel of the tyre were the main adjustments from Trans Am.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not a foreign beast. The TA2 America stuff I\u2019ve done, they\u2019re quite similar in a way. Trans Am as well, I feel like it\u2019s quite a similar car to these things,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReally, for me, it\u2019s getting the braking right. With such big brake rotors, the car stops on a dime. That\u2019s probably the biggest thing I\u2019ve had to learn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been pretty good to try something different and learn something new.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLudo, Gilly and the crew have been really good through the data and explaining to me how to really drive a radial tyre car for the first time in a fair while.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Morris did the bulk of the laps in the car throughout the day and was concentrating on adapting his skills from the Gen2 Ford Mustang he drives for Tickford Racing in Super2.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was pretty cool, I really enjoyed it,\u201d said Morris.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[There are a] few little different driving techniques to the Super2 car I normally drive that I had to adapt. The cars operate differently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I do get the opportunity to partner with Richie, [I need] to look at how to drive that and my Super2 car, which I\u2019ll have to do double duties at Bathurst.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was great to get a huge amount of laps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brewczynski had a brief run in the Camaro at the completion of the day and is not a contender for the co-drive.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"PremiAir Racing ran a single-car test on Monday.
