Australia\u2019s first Tokyo 2020 para-cycling gold medallist passes away suddenly at 28<\/p>\n
Australian Paralympic gold medallist Paige Greco has died at the age of 28. She passed away in her Adelaide home on Sunday after a “sudden medical episode,” according to her family.<\/p>\n
\u201cPaige meant everything to us. Her kindness, her determination and her warmth touched our family every single day,\u201d her mother, Natalie Greco, said in a statement released by AusCycling.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe brought so much joy and pride into our lives, and the pain of her passing is something we will carry forever. While we are devastated by her loss, we are incredibly proud of the person she was and the way she represented Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n
Greco was one of Australia\u2019s most accomplished para-cyclists. She won Australia\u2019s first gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, breaking the world record in the Women\u2019s C1\u20133 3,000m individual pursuit.<\/p>\n
She also won bronze medals in the Women\u2019s C1\u20133 road race and time trial, and claimed multiple World Championship titles and World Cup medals throughout her career, including a 2025 World Championship bronze in the road race.<\/p>\n
AusCycling CEO Marne Fechner said: \u201cWe are heartbroken by the tragic news of Paige\u2019s death. Paige was an extraordinary athlete who achieved outstanding accomplishments at the highest levels of our sport. Much more than that, she touched the lives of everyone around her with her positive spirit and courageous outlook.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cameron Murray, CEO of Paralympics Australia, described Greco as an \u201cextraordinary athlete\u201d and a \u201cremarkable person,\u201d adding that her death was devastating.<\/p>\n
