{"id":290608,"date":"2025-11-17T15:06:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-17T15:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/290608\/"},"modified":"2025-11-17T15:06:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-17T15:06:08","slug":"veteran-ex-super-league-forward-lands-new-nrl-deal-for-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/290608\/","title":{"rendered":"Veteran ex-Super League forward lands new NRL deal for 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Catalans Dragons man Sio Siua Taukeiaho has been handed a new one-year deal for 2026 by NRL outfit Manly Sea Eagles, with his consistency hailed by head coach Anthony Seibold.<\/p>\n<p>Veteran forward Taukeiaho, who will turn 34 in January, joined Manly ahead of the 2025 campaign and went on to feature 21 times in their colours.<\/p>\n<p>He linked up with the Sea Eagles on the back of a disastrous injury-hit stint in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loverugbyleague.com\/super-league\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Super League<\/a> with Catalans which produced just ten appearances in 18 months before he was released following an internal disciplinary issue.<\/p>\n<p>Having formed part of Sydney Roosters\u2019 back-to-back NRL winning squads in 2018 and 2019, next season will be the tenth of his career playing at first-grade level Down Under.<\/p>\n<p>Veteran former Super League powerhouse Sio Siua Taukeiaho lands new NRL deal for 2026<\/p>\n<p>Born in Auckland, Taukeiaho has one international appearance on his CV for New Zealand, made back in 2015 against England in Hull.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s Tonga who he has a wealth of experience donning the shirt of though, with 15 appearances in their colours between 2014 and 2022.<\/p>\n<p>After penning his new deal with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loverugbyleague.com\/club\/manly-sea-eagles\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Sea Eagles<\/a>, he said: \u201cI\u2019m really happy to have signed on at Manly for another year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a terrific a group we\u2019ve got here, both players and staff, and I think the future looks bright.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve enjoyed the break, my body feels good, so pre-season here we come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 33-year-old has 216 first-grade appearances under his belt in total, with 190 of those coming in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loverugbyleague.com\/nrl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NRL<\/a> between the New Zealand Warriors, the Roosters and Manly.<\/p>\n<p>Now just ten games off the landmark of 200 NRL appearances, Sea Eagles boss Seibold had nothing but praise for Taukeiaho as he said: \u201cSiua was tremendous for the team in his first year back in the NRL.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(He made) effort after effort and (was) just so consistent with his performances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a lot of injuries to our middles last season, so Siua\u2019s contribution to the team became even more important.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s one of our leaders who shows the way week in, week out, so it\u2019s great for the club to have Siua on deck for another season.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Former Catalans Dragons man Sio Siua Taukeiaho has been handed a new one-year deal for 2026 by NRL&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":290609,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[568],"tags":[64,63,761,762,158,85],"class_list":["post-290608","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-nrl","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-national-rugby-league","tag-nationalrugbyleague","tag-nrl","tag-sports"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/290608","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=290608"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/290608\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/290609"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=290608"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=290608"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=290608"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
