NBA basketball is returning to SuperSport across sub-Saharan Africa in a new deal that also brings the league to Showmax\u2019s Premier League-branded streaming tier for the first time.<\/p>\n
MultiChoice, now majority-owned by Canal+, has confirmed that SuperSport will once again carry live NBA games across its footprint \u2013 the first time the league has been on the network since the 2015\/16 season. The agreement covers selected regular-season fixtures, playoff games and full coverage of NBA All-Star Weekend, with an English-language feed distributed in more than 50 African markets.<\/p>\n
As part of the renewed partnership, live NBA action will also stream on Showmax Premier League, marking the league\u2019s debut on the relaunched Showmax platform and already carries SuperSport-branded live sport alongside entertainment content.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Games will be available on SuperSport channels via DStv, the DStv Stream app and GOtv, with additional access on Showmax Premier League. Highlights and shoulder programming will run across SuperSport\u2019s digital and social outlets. The NBA coverage will be carried on the DStv Compact tier across sub-Saharan Africa and on GOtv Supa Plus, widening reach beyond premium subscribers.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Rendani Ramovha, Canal+ Director of Sport Content for English and Portuguese-speaking Africa, described the return as \u201ca landmark moment\u201d and said the deal would give viewers \u201ca front-row seat to the speed, skill and drama\u201d of the NBA, while supporting the growth of basketball across the continent. The move restores a relationship that ended when the NBA switched its primary sub-Saharan rights from SuperSport to Econet Media\u2019s Kwes\u00e9 Sports from the 2016-17 season, in a multi-platform agreement covering pay-TV, online and mobile distribution. Canal+ already offers French-language NBA coverage on its African platforms, and the SuperSport\/Showmax deal effectively extends the group\u2019s NBA offering across both French- and English-language<\/p>\n
