A 36-year-old married police officer and three other people were shot and killed by a crazed gunman who stormed a swanky Midtown skyscraper<\/a> early Monday evening \u2014 sparking mayhem in Midtown before turning the gun on himself, police said.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old maniac, identified as Las Vegas resident Shane Tamura<\/a>, barged into the 44-story building \u2014 which houses Blackstone and the NFL headquarters \u2014 armed with a rifle and opened fire at around 6:30 p.m. during the evening rush, cops and law enforcement sources told The Post.<\/p>\n

The man is seen wearing a blazer, button down and dark sunglasses outside the building, where one civilian and one cop were critically injured. Obtained by NY Post<\/p>\n

Didarul Islam was identified as the cop killed in the ambush. NYPD<\/p>\n

Tamura, who authorities said had a \u201cdocumented mental health history,\u201d unleashed his rampage after setting foot in the lobby, first gunning down officer Didarul Islam, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a Monday evening press conference.<\/p>\n

Tamura then fatally shot a woman who was hiding behind a pillar as he continued \u201cspraying\u201d the lobby of 345 Park Avenue with bullets, Tisch said.<\/p>\n

The rifle used in the shooting is a Palmetto State Armory AR15. Obtained by the NY Post<\/p>\n

The lone gunman didn\u2019t stop there as he marched to the elevators and pumped a bullet into a security guard who took cover behind a desk, police said. <\/p>\n

In a chilling moment of apparent mercy, the wacko spared the life of a woman who came face to face with the killer as she exited an elevator, according to Tisch.<\/p>\n

Tamura then took the lift up to the 33rd floor, home to Rudin Management offices, where he \u201cfired as he traveled,\u201d striking and killing one person before shooting himself in the chest.<\/p>\n

Tamura was seen splayed out on the ground, apparently already dead, in a shocking photo obtained by The Post.<\/p>\n

Another man was also shot in the lobby and survived his injuries.<\/p>\n

Here is the latest on the NYC mass shooting:<\/p>\n

A witness on the first floor recalled that \u201cit sounded like a barrage of shots \u2026Like an automatic weapon. Like a high-capacity weapon.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was at work and this guy came in with an assault rifle and started shooting,\u201d a man, who was gasping for air outside 3, told The Post shortly after the bullets started flying.<\/p>\n

Tamura launched the mass shooting after driving across the country, police said.<\/p>\n

He crossed into the Big Apple from New Jersey earlier Monday afternoon then drove to 345 Park Avenue, parking between 51st and 52nd streets, according to Tisch.<\/p>\n

Chilling images showed the gunman calmly strolling across the building\u2019s entry plaza with an assault rifle at his side before carrying out the carnage.<\/p>\n

\tNYC Midtown shooting timeline<\/p>\n

Reports of the shooting at 345 Park Avenue started coming in at around 6:28 p.m.<\/p>\n

The shooter, Shane Tamura, 27, was seen on surveillance footage getting out of a double parked black BMW between 51st and 52nd Street, with an M4 rifle.<\/p>\n

He then walks towards the skyscraper, enters the lobby and turns right, where he shot police officer Didarul Islam, 36, dead.<\/a><\/p>\n

Tamura then gunned down a woman cowering behind a pillar in the lobby, as he sprayed more bullets and walked toward the elevator bank \u2014 where he shot dead a security guard crouching at his desk.<\/p>\n

One more man reported being shot and injured in the lobby. He was in critical but stable condition.<\/p>\n

The gunman allowed a woman to walk out of the elevators unharmed, before heading up to the 33rd floor, where building owner Rudin Properties\u2019 offices are located, \u201cand begins to walk the floor, firing as he traveled.\u201d<\/p>\n

One man was shot and killed on that floor.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe then proceeds down a hallway and shoots himself in the chest,\u201d ending his rampage.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear how long the mayhem lasted. Tisch posted on X<\/a> at 7:52 p.m.: \u201cthe scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralized.\u201d<\/p>\n

Footage posted to social media shows bystanders running for their lives outside the building and workers were also later seen filing out of the high-rise with their hands up.<\/p>\n

Sources said Islam, the officer, was shot at in the back and died at a hospital. <\/p>\n

With sirens blaring in the background, three cops dragged an injured woman in a dress away from the front of the building, according to disturbing\u00a0footage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tamura is believed to have acted alone. <\/p>\n

\u201cHis motives are still under investigation. We are working to understand why he targeted this particular location,\u201d Tisch said.<\/p>\n

Police recovered Tamura\u2019s bloodstained long gun, a Palmetto State Armory AR-15 assault rifle<\/a>. <\/p>\n

A vehicle with Nevada plates registered to Tamura was found at the scene.<\/p>\n

Cops searched his car and found a rifle case with rounds, a loaded revolver, extra ammunition, magazines, a backpack and medication prescribed to him.<\/p>\n

Sources said Tamura was a security guard at a Las Vegas casino and didn\u2019t show up for work Sunday morning, setting off alarm bells. <\/p>\n

The gunman had a concealed firearms permit from Las Vegas with a 2027 expiration date, according to a picture of the license obtained by The Post.<\/p>\n

Photos posted to X show who is purported to be frantic Blackstone employees stacking couches and other furniture in front of an office entrance during Tamura\u2019s rampage. <\/p>\n

Oleksandr Stupak, 30, was standing on the street nearby when he heard gunshots ring out \u2014 and watched in shock as armed police flooded the building<\/p>\n

\u201cI was on the one block away and I heard shots being fired and then a bunch of police, they came to neutralize it,\u201d he said. \u201cI went to the Citizen app and it says active shooting. A lot of police started to come. I mean. [It\u2019s ] crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The blocks surrounding the building were flooded with police cars, fire engines, ambulances<\/a> and first responders, while helicopters filled the sky overhead.<\/p>\n

And footage from the scene showed officers hastily performing CPR on an apparent victim after hauling his limp body in the middle of the street.<\/p>\n

The officer who was killed was from the 47th Precinct. William C Lopez\/New York Post<\/p>\n

The FBI and bomb squad has also responded to the scene.<\/p>\n

Mayor Adams has been briefed on the incident, and cautioned New Yorkers to avoid the area.<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old slain officer was from the 47 Precinct, but was working a paid detail for the owner of the building, Rudin Properties, at the time of the shooting, sources said.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s been on the force since December 2021 and leaves behind a wife who was pregnant with their third child, according to a high ranking police source.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, two apparent protesters, including one who yelled,\u00a0\u201cFree Palestine, I\u2019m not the shooter,\u201d\u00a0were arrested outside of the building around the time of the shooting.<\/p>\n
