The Red Sox<\/a> face an offseason with a slew of questions, including how they want to handle first base. <\/p>\n

Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow didn\u2019t commit to Triston Casas being Boston\u2019s first baseman when the 2026 season begins, and there are intriguing options on the free agent market.<\/p>\n

Pete Alonso\u2019s name has come up as a potential fit for Boston, and MLB Network\u2019s Jon Morosi believes the Red Sox have a strong chance to sign the veteran.<\/p>\n

\u201cEither they bring back (Alex) Bregman, or they make an all-out pursuit for Pete Alonso. I like their chances to get one or the other,\u201d the MLB insider said on \u201cHot Stove.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI look at the big landscape of things, and I think the Red Sox are the strongest contender of anyone to take Pete Alonso away from the New York Mets,\u201d Morosi added<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bregman opted out of the final two years of his contract earlier this month and is expected to have plenty of teams interested in him. <\/p>\n

Alonso has shown he\u2019s durable having played 162 games in each of the last two seasons, but his defense has been inconsistent. Despite that, ex-MLB general manager Jim Bowden believes Alonso<\/a> would be a perfect player for the clubhouse. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd what would he do to Roman Anthony?\u201d\u00a0Bowden said on \u201cFoul Territory.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0\u201cWhat would he do for the middle of that lineup? Take all the pressure off. I think it would be a great fit for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anthony received his long-awaited call-up to the Red Sox in June and immediately added an offensive spark. Once he suffered a season-ending\u00a0oblique injury<\/a>\u00a0in September, the offense struggled to find a groove in his absence.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox do have other needs to address, like\u00a0a No. 2 starter<\/a>\u00a0to pair with Garrett Crochet. <\/p>\n
