US rapper Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers, has filed a lawsuit against Australian beach accessory company Swim Shady, saying its name is too close to his trademarked pseudonym \u201cSlim Shady\u201d.<\/p>\n

The chart topper, 53, filed the petition to the US Patent and Trademark Office, calling for the cancellation of the trademark given to the Aussie company.<\/p>\n

American law requires the company to respond to the petition by the end of the week, according to the BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Lawyers for the rapper accused the Sydney-based brand of creating a \u201cfalse association\u201d with the singer.<\/p>\n

Originally, the Aussie brand filed a trademark in September 2023, under the name Slim Shade, before officially launching in 2024 under the Swim Shady moniker. They only filed for a US trademark earlier this year.<\/p>\n

The brand sells portable beach umbrellas, swim bags and other beach accessories.<\/p>\n

Eminem trademarked the name Slim Shady in 1999, following the release of his eponymous album.<\/p>\n

Sydney intellectual property legal specialist firm Meyer West IP is listed as Swim Shady\u2019s legal representative.<\/p>\n

Eminem previously took on clothing brand \u201cShadzy\u201d and sunglasses brand, \u201cShady Character\u201d.<\/p>\n

More recently, he took on Real Housewives stars Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon over their effort to trademark podcast, Reasonably Shady.<\/p>\n
