A 62-year-old motorcyclist who clung to a P-plater’s bonnet for 1.3 kilometres during a road rage attack has been banned from driving for eight months.<\/p>\n
John Stanley Turner faced the Mildura Magistrates Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to five offences including affray, dangerous driving and property damage.<\/p>\n
Dash camera vision played in court and later released showed Turner leaping onto the bonnet of a car in Mildura, in north-west Victoria, on February 27.<\/p>\n
During a six-and-a-half minute ordeal, Turner threw his helmet at the car’s windscreen, smashed the driver’s side mirror and tore at a windscreen wiper while being driven five blocks to the nearest police station.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The victim, who was not named by the court, was a P-plate driver with four passengers.<\/p>\n
How it unfolded<\/p>\n
The footage began with Turner being cut off as both vehicles attempted to turn onto Deakin Avenue near Mildura’s CBD.<\/p>\n
Turner overtook, braked and made a rude gesture, before the car moved to pass and clipped the side of his motorcycle.<\/p>\n
Turner then braked heavily and his bike was bumped. He removed his helmet and threw it at the car’s windscreen.<\/p>\n
The court was told the 62-year-old had had a bad day, and had decided to take a ride to clear his head.<\/p>\n

The chase<\/p>\n
The court heard the P-plate driver tried to get away, before a now helmet-less Turner rode after them in pursuit.<\/p>\n
Turner destroyed the car’s driver side mirror, which he also threw onto the car bonnet.<\/p>\n
The court heard the occupants feared for their lives and phoned police after Turner jumped onto the bonnet.<\/p>\n
They were told to drive directly to the police station, 1.3 kilometres away.<\/p>\n
For the next two minutes and 46 seconds, Turner clung to the bonnet and refused to get off, even when the car stopped at traffic lights.<\/p>\n
The interaction ended at the Mildura police station. Turner walked inside while the P-plate driver remained in the vehicle.<\/p>\n

A costly exercise<\/p>\n
The court was told Turner caused $7,794.24 worth of damage to the P-plater’s car.<\/p>\n
The court also heard he later posted on social media claiming he had been deliberately rammed and that his motorcycle had suffered more than $3,000 worth of damage.<\/p>\n
Turner was originally charged with 15 offences in June. He pleaded guilty to five consolidated charges on Monday.<\/p>\n

A victim impact statement read in court said Turner’s rage was “instant”, leaving the driver and passengers extremely frightened.<\/p>\n
Magistrate Michael Coghlan described the behaviour as “outrageous” and “disturbing”, saying Turner had reacted “very poorly”.<\/p>\n
Turner’s licence was suspended for eight months.
