The Warriors converted six field goals in the opening quarter and received a spark from Megan Schuman and Breah Golden to hold a 13–10 advantage after ten minutes.

Upper Iowa responded quickly in the second quarter behind a hot shooting stretch from Ellie Foster and Ava Privet. The Peacocks hit three early threes to flip the scoreboard, but Winona State countered with a flurry from sophomore guard Sadie Jarmolowicz, who drilled three second-quarter triples to keep WSU within striking distance. A late layup from Megan Schuman trimmed the deficit to 29–28 before UIU scored at the horn to take a 31–28 lead into halftime.

The third quarter featured back-and-forth scoring as both teams traded small runs. Winona State surged behind Hailey Markworth, who scored eight points in the period and converted three straight field goals to pull the Warriors within 40–38. Alayna Suprenand added a transition layup to keep WSU close, but Upper Iowa continued to counter from deep, building a 50–47 lead heading into the final ten minutes.

The fourth quarter, however, belonged to the Peacocks. Winona State went ice-cold from the field, scoring just two points in the entire period and shooting 1-of-11. UIU capitalized with an 9–0 run to open the quarter, stretching the lead to double digits. Despite strong defensive possessions, the Warriors could not find late scoring, as Upper Iowa closed out the 59–49 victory.

Statistical Comparison:

Winona State shot 19-of-48 (39.6%) from the field; Upper Iowa finished 24-of-48 (50.0%).
WSU went 4-of-15 (26.7%) from three, while UIU connected on 7-of-18 (38.9%).
The Warriors won the rebounding battle 31–24, including 11 offensive boards.
Winona State’s defense forced 18 turnovers and tallied 8 steals.
WSU was undone by 21 turnovers of its own and a 2-point fourth quarter.

Individual Performances:

Sadie Jarmolowicz led the Warriors with 15 points, adding 7 rebounds, 4 steals, and three made threes in 38 minutes.
Hailey Markworth scored 10 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and handed out 3 assists.
Megan Schuman added 8 points (4-of-6 FG) and 3 rebounds.
Vivica Bretton posted 4 assists and 3 rebounds while contributing on the defensive end.
Alayna Suprenand, Natalie Meaux, and Megan Johnson combined for 9 points off the bench.
Upper Iowa was paced by Ellie Foster’s 19 points, while Ava Privet added 16 points and 7 rebounds.

Winona State (1–2) stays on the road for a non-conference matchup on Friday, November 21, against Truman State at 3:00pm.

FAYETTE, Iowa – Winona State women’s basketball battled for three quarters but a cold offensive…

[574
64,63,726,85
0":"post-295062","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-basketball","8":"tag-au","9":"tag-australia","10":"tag-basketball","11":"tag-sports
["GET
