{"id":295659,"date":"2025-11-19T21:43:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T21:43:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/295659\/"},"modified":"2025-11-19T21:43:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T21:43:08","slug":"bruins-top-defenceman-charlie-mcavoy-out-indefinitely-following-facial-surgery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/295659\/","title":{"rendered":"Bruins top defenceman Charlie McAvoy out indefinitely following facial surgery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/boston-bruins\/6\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/boston-bruins\/6\" target=\"_blank\">Boston Bruins<\/a> will be without the services of their top defenceman in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/charlie-mcavoy\/8479325\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/charlie-mcavoy\/8479325\" target=\"_blank\">Charlie McAvoy<\/a> for the foreseeable future after he had facial surgery, head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/marco-sturm\/8464979\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/marco-sturm\/8464979\" target=\"_blank\">Marco Sturm<\/a> told the media on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">There is no timetable for his return. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The 27-year-old blueliner left Saturday\u2019s win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/montreal-canadiens\/8\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/montreal-canadiens\/8\" target=\"_blank\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> midway through the second period after taking a slap shot to the face from Habs defenceman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/noah-dobson\/8480865\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/noah-dobson\/8480865\" target=\"_blank\">Noah Dobson<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Dobson\u2019s shot deflected off Bruins forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/mark-kastelic\/8480355\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/mark-kastelic\/8480355\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Kastelic<\/a> before hitting McAvoy near the mouth. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">McAvoy has 14 assists over 19 games with the Bruins in 2025-26, his ninth season with the franchise since being selected 14th overall in 2016. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The native of Long Beach, N.Y. has tallied 60 goals and 254 assists over 523 career games with the Bruins, adding six goals and 42 assists across 91 playoff games. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">McAvoy is in the fourth season of an eight-year, $76 million contract, featuring an average annual value of $9.5 million. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Considered one of the better American defenceman in the NHL, McAvoy is a strong candidate to make Team USA for the upcoming Winter Olympics in February. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">McAvoy played for his country during last February\u2019s inaugural 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, but missed the final against Canada &#8211;
