{"id":296772,"date":"2025-11-20T09:52:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T09:52:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/296772\/"},"modified":"2025-11-20T09:52:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T09:52:15","slug":"decision-made-on-super2s-divisive-gen3-debate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/296772\/","title":{"rendered":"Decision made on Super2\u2019s divisive Gen3 debate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IT\u2019S official: Gen3 Supercars will not become eligible for the Dunlop Super2 Series until 2028.<\/p>\n<p>The subject of when the latest-spec Supercars will enter the second tier has proven divisive for months, with a backlash emerging against the initial push for a 2027 transition.<\/p>\n<p>Triple Eight Race Engineering was at the forefront of campaigning for a sooner switch, with Brad Jones Racing and the Blanchard Racing Team also in support.<\/p>\n<p>Publicly taking a stance to the contrary were teams including Tickford Racing, Walkinshaw Andretti United, Image Racing and Anderson Motorsport.<\/p>\n<p>Independent teams, i.e. those who don\u2019t compete in the main game, have claimed a five-year run with Gen2 machinery was necessary to recoup value on investments in order to make numbers stack up.<\/p>\n<p>The likes of Triple Eight however have argued that bringing Gen3 cars to Super2 would help rising stars make a smoother jump up to the Repco Supercars Championship, given the difference between the technical platforms.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/1-43-scale-2021-bathurst-1000-supercars-gen3-prototype-launch-chevrolet-camaro-model?utm_source=SRBuyButton&amp;utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ACD43C21A_1_1024x1024.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Either way, following extensive consideration, the powers that be have ruled in favour of 2028 per V8 Sleuth sources.<\/p>\n<p>Four Super2 drivers will graduate to full-time Supercars seats next year: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2773-Rylan-Gray\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rylan Gray<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-250-Dick-Johnson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dick Johnson<\/a> Racing), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2862-Jackson-Walls\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jackson Walls<\/a> (Triple Eight), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2747-Zach-Bates\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zach Bates<\/a> (Matt Stone Racing) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2756-Jobe-Stewart\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jobe Stewart<\/a> (Erebus Motorsport).<\/p>\n<p>Gray is in the box seat to win the 2025 title, entering next week\u2019s Adelaide finale with a 147-point buffer to Tickford teammate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2740-Lochie-Dalton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lochie Dalton<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If Gray does go on to seal the deal, that will make for seven Super2 champions on the Supercars grid, also including Bates (2024), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2726-Kai-Allen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kai Allen<\/a> (2023), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2633-Declan-Fraser\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Declan Fraser<\/a> (2022), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-1545-Broc-Feeney\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Broc Feeney<\/a> (2021), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-1293-Thomas-Randle\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Thomas Randle<\/a> (2020) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-58-Cam-Waters\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cam Waters<\/a> (2015).<\/p>\n<p>The 2026 Super2 calendar will comprise six rounds: Sydney, Darwin, Perth, Bathurst, Sandown and Adelaide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"IT\u2019S official: Gen3 Supercars will not become eligible for the Dunlop Super2 Series until 2028.
