On Wednesday, UNCW nearly overcame a 13-point third-quarter deficit on the road, but fell 65-56 to Gardner-Webb in a nonconference matchup.<\/p>\n
UNCW cut the deficit to one with 8:24 to play, but Gardner-Webb pulled away down the stretch to secure the victory.<\/p>\n
The Seahawks committed 31 turnovers in the contest, which resulted in 27 points for the Runnin’ Bulldogs. Gardner-Webb also had a 34-12 edge in points in the paint.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Junior guard Paige Smith<\/a> poured in 25 points, shooting 9-for-13 (69.2%) from the field and 7-for-11 (63.6%) from 3-point range, making the third-most 3-point field goals in a single game in program history.<\/p>\n Smith’s seven three-pointers are the most in a single game for the Seahawks since Madison Raque made eight against Catawba on Dec. 19, 2016. Smith leads the team with 10 3-pointers and is shooting a team-best 37% from 3-point range.<\/p>\n Redshirt sophomore guard Kylah Silver<\/a> had 11 points and eight rebounds against Gardner-Webb, and senior guard Kate Hollifield<\/a> had eight points, four rebounds, four assists\u00a0and\u00a0three steals in the game.<\/p>\n Hollifield has made at least two 3-pointers in each of her last three games. During that stretch, Hollifield is shooting 7-of-15 (46.7%) from beyond the arc.\u00a0<\/p>\n Last season, Hollifield led all players in the Coastal Athletic Association\u00a0in 3-point percentage during conference play, shooting 43.5% from beyond the arc in 18 CAA games.\u00a0<\/p>\n Graduate guard Rori Cox<\/a> leads the team with 13.3 points and three assists per game. On Nov. 12, Cox had 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists against Coastal Carolina.\u00a0<\/p>\n In the Seahawks’ win against NC Central on Nov. 7, Cox led the Seahawks with 21 points and eight rebounds in 25 minutes of action, making 10-of-14 free-throw attempts.<\/p>\n As of Nov. 20, Cox is 11th in the CAA points per game and assists.<\/p>\n NEW AT TRASK<\/p>\n Several amenities and concession enhancements will welcome fans to\u00a0Trask\u00a0Coliseum as the\u00a0UNCW\u00a0men’s and women’s basketball programs open the 2025-26 season.<\/p>\n Improvements have been made with the fan experience in mind, highlighted by an upgraded lighting system and improved Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the coliseum.\u00a0<\/p>\n More concession speed lines will be available throughout the building to reduce wait times and get fans back to the\u00a0gameday\u00a0action.<\/p>\n In addition, several new concession options will be available this year, including select discounted concessions up to 30 minutes before tip-off, souvenir cup options, specialty items, and a kids’ meal.<\/p>\n
