<\/p>\n NEW YORK \u2013 On Thursday night, the Maritime College men’s basketball team (2-2) picked up its second straight win, a 76-54 triumph over Hunter (0-5) at the Hunter Sportsplex.\u00a0 The Privateers led nearly wire-to-wire in their largest road victory since Nov. 21, 2023.<\/p>\n Maritime raced out to an early 7-2 cushion before the Hawks used an 8-2 run to go in front, 10-9.\u00a0 That would be the Privateers’ only deficit of the night, as Jake Devaney<\/a> (Washingtonville, NY) sank a pair of foul shots on the other end to start a 7-0 rally that gave Maritime a 16-10 advantage with 13:24 left in the first half.\u00a0 The margin hit 14 points, 30-16, on Evan Block’s<\/a> (Seaford, NY) trey at the 2:27 mark, and the Privateers held a 30-20 edge at the break.<\/p>\n After Maritime opened up a 22-point margin, 53-31, on a Sean Kivlan<\/a> (Floral Park, NY) trey midway through the second half, the Hawks rattled off 10 straight points to cut their deficit to 12.\u00a0 However, Tyler Anderson<\/a> (Smithtown, NY) followed with a three-pointer that started an 11-2 Privateers run which extended the lead to 64-43 with 4:25 remaining.\u00a0 The 76-54 final score represented Maritime’s biggest road win since an 80-50 victory at York nearly two years ago to the day.<\/p>\n Devaney finished with 23 points, his third straight game eclipsing the 20-point plateau.\u00a0 He added nine rebounds, three steals and three blocks.\u00a0 Block nearly had a double-double of his own with 15 points and nine boards.\u00a0 Anderson contributed 10 points, and Frank Sweeney<\/a> (Rockville Centre, NY) grabbed eight boards in 10 minutes off the bench.\u00a0 Jesse Tricario<\/a> (New Hyde Park, NY) collected seven boards, as the Privateers held a 51-40 edge on the glass.\u00a0 Maritime shot 38.7 percent (29-of-75) from the floor, 40.7 percent (11-of-27) from long range, and 58.3 percent (7-of-12) at the charity stripe.<\/p>\n For the Hawks, Sloan Ireland led the way with 15 points.\u00a0 He also tallied eight rebounds and four blocks.\u00a0 Jeremiah Otasowie notched 12 points, six boards and three assists, while Noah Outmezguine recorded 10 points.\u00a0 As a team, Hunter shot 31 percent (18-of-58) from the field, 14.3 percent (3-of-21) from downtown, and 71.4 percent (15-of-21) at the free throw line.<\/p>\n The Privateers now have more than a week off before returning to action.\u00a0 Maritime welcomes Rutgers-Newark (1-3) to Riesenberg Gymnasium on Sunday, Nov. 30.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
