Celebrity culture can sometimes feel like a constant bombardment of youth-preserving propaganda \u2013 from A-listers hailing their ‘holy grail’ products to advanced facelifts<\/a> and intensive treatments<\/a> to stave off even the smallest signs of ageing. Mariah Carey’s approach to getting older? She simply ignores it.<\/p>\n

In her September cover interview with <\/a>Harper’s Bazaar<\/a>, the global superstar shared her personal philosophy on the ageing process. “I don\u2019t allow it \u2013 it just doesn\u2019t happen,” she explains. “I don\u2019t know time. I don\u2019t know numbers. I do not acknowledge time.” <\/p>\n

Carey’s reputation as the music industry’s most-fabulous persona comes second only to her extensive catalogue of music; when asked in her interview which female diva was her favourite, she quipped, “I’m going to have to go with me.” <\/p>\n

It shouldn’t be surprising that despite the rest of us falling prey to the passing years, it has no effect on Carey, who at 56, retains the same aura as she did two decades ago. The singer has remained staunch in her blissful ignorance towards the passage of time; in 2015, Carey told People<\/a>: “I think I have to remain eternally oblivious to age.” <\/p>\n

Resilience towards the hurdles life has thrown at her is something that Carey has displayed time and time again. Despite a difficult first marriage and a rocky ascent to stardom, the Hero singer retains a rather stoic approach to negativity. “You have to be able to push that away, let that go, you know?” she says. “Because why, at this point in my life, would I really be worried about that stuff?”<\/p>\n

While some might deem her attitude unconventional, Carey’s clear philosophy has undoubtedly paid off. To most of us, it seems hard to believe that Carey’s festive hit All I Want For Christmas \u2014 which secured number-one status as of 2019 \u2014 was released more than 20 years ago. Not many stars are able to weather the storm of the music industry, let alone do so for almost three decades. If Mariah Carey says she doesn’t acknowledge the march of time, who are we to argue?<\/p>\n
